Bad times for Star Trek actress

I saw this story about Jennifer Lien on CNN. She played Kes on Star Trek Voyager. I'm guessing alcoholism/drug addiction or mental illness is in the mix.
I was also curious to see on Wiki that the Kes character was written out to allow the producers to bring in Jeri Ryan to play Seven of Nine. I always thought Kes really was an inspiring character.

This made me chuckle:

Neighbor Carey Smith told WATE that Lien came by her home to comment on how Smith's children were being raised and started using vulgar language.

"All of a sudden, here come the shirt up," said Smith.

"She started flashing and, 'Woo hoo,' and I said, 'And what respect is that for kids?' There was none. And then she turned around and dropped her pants."

And the case can be made that sequence of events that lead Jeri Ryan to be added to replace this character on the show may have indirectly have been related to Barack Obama becoming president, when Jeri Ryan had a sex scandal falling out with her husband who was the Illinois senator who resigned that Barack Obama took his seat from then arguably due to that situation, which ultimately gave Obama the path to run for and win the presidency. I guess we all have to do our part in tying Obama to everything here!

I wonder if Jessica Lien might be thinking of this outcome and having that contribute to her mental difficulties now too.
