Wow! After a rough first half, along with most of his teammates, Nicholas Baer walks on the court at crunch time and helps put the dagger in Purdue. He grabbed some rebounds, he hit an ice-water 3, and then he hit a crucial fade from the lane with the game on the line both times. And he got a hustle bucket on a break away.

The kid can play any where, any time. What a performance. Wow.

Yes, Dom did, and he deserves plenty of credit for it--those were huge--but then he's on scholarship.

After Baer scored 19 against Tenn Tech, I told some 'stodgy old Hawkeye fans' that
I thought Baer was for real. They said, 'well, let's see what he does against real competition'.

I was right and the stodgy, thumb-sucker fans were Wrong, again.

Go figure

I believe that late in this game, Fran wisely inserted Nicholas Baer for his poise,
decision-making, smarts and Free throw shooting.

And to think that Baer and Dale Jones might still be splitting minutes. Actually Dale is pretty good too.

Yeah. Really wish Dale didn't get hurt both for his sake and the teams. He has a really pretty shot, is a good rebounder, and I think his D was improving. The team would be even better w him.

["tedboy78] My favorite play by Baer was when he blocked a shot and then saved it from going OB in front of the Purdue bench. Great hustle. You gotta love that![/QUOTE]

Tedboy78, you got that right. That was fabulous. Thanks for pointing that out.

Baer has been the storyline of the season this year. Every game since he turned it on, the tv guys reaction when they see him is one of total astonishment. It would be difficult to measure his value to the team. I love the guy!

I said it before, when Baer, Dom and other bench guys come in I feel real good about them in the game.

The Pain Reliever plays with so much energy and composure for a freshman. It's not unusual to find a freshman who plays with a lot of energy but very unusual to find one who plays with so much composure. Most players need time to slow the game down, but he seems to have grasped that concept early and plays as under control as anyone on the team.

He really sneaks around the court, on both ends, waiting to pounce and strike...he can hide...and be overlooked by the opponent...

Best part of that play was his man was running him down the lane then to the left. He kept his eyes on his man and the ball than turned back to make that block.

I only saw that play the one time and didn't notice that, but I was stunned to realize it was him who made that save when he was the one who blocked it under the basket.

Must have really made a lot of improvement between his junior and senior years. Which would explain why he wasn't recruited. Did he not play much AAU ball? I've heard he has a younger brother, sounds like he comes from a family of athletes. Perhaps another on the way?
