AKA Thanksgiving fun: Bands that were thankful for other bands. So much so covers ended up on albums. I’m obviously very much into music under the “alternative” umbrella, so those of you who are metalheads, classic rockers, etc. could easily add more…

Meat Puppets - Thanks to Nirvana Unplugged.

The Kinks - Covered by Van Halen, Def Leppard, The Pretenders, Joan Jett, Green Day, The Black Keys.

The Damned - Covered by Guns N Roses, The Offspring, Goo Goo Dolls (a regular during Kinnick Stadium warm-ups), Mudhoney

Public Image Ltd. - Covered by Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sugar Ray, Moby, Spoon, Sheep on Drugs.

I'd say Bob Dylan.

I know, breaking the rules, since he's not a band, but he stands out so much on this topic he couldnt go without being mentioned. I think with so many cover versions out there, a lot of people have probably said "oh wow, Bob Dylan wrote that?" To me, that's the true test.

It also makes sense he'd be on this list because his voice kinda sucks, and yet the songs are so damn good and have such a cool poetic vibe to them.

The man wrote songs that we now consider "standards", but his are for the Rock 'n Roll generation.

Mr. Tambourine Man, All Along the Watchtower, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Blowin' in the Wind...the list goes on and on.

Probably the greatest example of what I’m talking about. Somehow I overlooked him. Great take.

Guns & Roses Knockin' on Heaven's Door is terrible.
