Sounds like the field turf project is going as planned. Coach Heller says it will allow Iowa to get outside and practice more in February and March.

Nice use of money in 2010 when they redid the surface for it to be replaced 3 years later. That's on the athletic department. I'm glad Heller isn't taking crap from the dummies in charge of athletics.

Right, that was a real head scratcher at the time and it still is today. I'm glad we're correcting the mistake.

Just guessing, but the infield was also moved out 10 feet in 2010, probably in response to our anemic hitting and run scoring since Banks left. That might have been the main issue at the time, rather than whether to replace with grass or FieldTurf.

That still seems quite short-sighted to spend money on moving the fences in and redoing the field while not installing turf. I do remember they were hoping to move all of the baseball operations out near the Marriot on I-80 at the time and were hoping that it would be a quick fix until then.

They didn't move the fences - moving the infield out 10 ft accomplished the same thing. But I agree going to FieldTurf at the time would have been a good move. Heller had been trying to get it installed at Waterloo's Riverfront Stadium when UNI pulled the plug on their program.

Right, right, I think you know what I meant. I do kinda like the quirk of having the field half turf, half natural grass even if it's only for a year. It carries that Wichita State-feel.
