Yes, fans have reason to be mad after USC swept UCLA with three wins in a single season for the first time since 1942. Fans have a reason to be mad that a team that beat Kentucky, Gonzaga and Arizona ended up 15-17 and out of the tournament after three-straight Sweet 16 appearances.

But that's the thing, Alford not only has a pretty good postseason record with UCLA but also one of the best recruiting classes in the nation coming in next season featuring two five-stars (Lorenzo Ball, T.J. Leaf). There's no way UCLA would take the financial risks necessary to make a move and also risk losing one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Nevertheless, fans paid for this:

Alford had a pretty highly rated recruiting class in 2000 with Worley, Reiner, and Evans. Also got McD's transfer Recker.

My point?

With or without talent, Alford can eff up a two-car funeral.

Oh, and UCLA beat UAB to make it to the Sweet 16 last year. So let's be real about that.

That '01-'02 season was quite the collapse.

Somewhat ironic considering Iowa's football program a a year ago. No way will UCLA touch the 10m buyout, I am thinking Alford will have a pretty hefty list of benchmarks to complete in order to maintain his job. It will be interesting how much Bryce will play. He is good on offense but a liability on defense which is what the team must improve on the most next year.

I have no clue how that UCLA team of his finished as badly as it has.. he had 5 players averaging double digit points. They must have played the worst defense ever to lose. Alford will lose only a single player off this years team and with that recruiting class(two 5*, a 4* and a 3*) coming in the team should win the PAC10. Doubt it though.. Alford was always one to never have a team play to its potential. Oh and looking at some of the TJ Leaf(5*) recruiting videos made me cringe.. so many missed bunnies.

Didn't play worst defense ever. Played NO defense ever. Bryce Alford would move out of the way of the guy to not play D. He has not tried to play D since he has been there and after a while the rest of the team mailed it in too. Out there they call him Bryce Alfor cause there is no D. Look at some UCLA message boards, they are ready to lynch Stevie out there.

Lonzo Ball is the next Jason Kidd. He has no reason to worry next year. Bryce will get so many open looks from three due to Lonzo Ball. He would be a top 8 pick in the NBA draft if he could declare this year. Jason Kidd Jr.
