Barta gets five year extension and raise

This is awesome.

Congrats to you guys, the team, and all your fans. A good reward for a job well done. Hard to argue with it after the tremendous success of football in 2015.

And the great basketball of course. Wrestling speaks for itself.

Barta has things rolling for you guys.

Should next football season not pan out like 95% of Hawkeye Nation expects...(8+ wins; not including bowl game)....there will be massive criticism of this contract extension.

That's dumb. What the hell does Barta have to do with the football team if they under perform next year?

Answer? Nothing.

If Iowa stunk this past year and then underperformed next yr, then yes. Barta would be on the hot seat big.

That's retarded.

One great season doesn't totally erase the crap Ferentz had dished out the previous five, especially when it ended in a complete ass-kicking. Now if you combine that with another unacceptable under performing season (which none of us expect to happen) then that's a reflection on Barta's poor judgement with that atrocious 10 year iron clad contract extension.

Barta got lucky with Fran bailing him out of the Lackliter debacle, but he's still on thin ice for everything else.

Yeah I mean he could have just kept Alford !!!!!!

Considering this is arguably the best calendar year in Iowa History, certainly in my lifetime, Barta does deserve some credit here. Especially considering how quickly most of you dish out criticism especially last year. He has made some great hires and revived many important programs to the Iowa community. Considering we currently have 3 top ten teams (arguably the most important sports in Iowa) with football @ #9, bball currently #4 (will still be in top 10 or close to), and wrestling #2 that is pretty impressive. Not to mention an improving Vball program, up and coming baseball program, sustained success in golf, and probably a few others that I really do not care about. Bluder's bunch is struggling a little bit but very young and yes there is a civil case going on, but lets be honest most of those cases have no foundation because it was results based (see volleyball and softball) and the field hockey case we have only heard one side because the University is limited on what it can say publically at this time. Not mention the fact that the coach had an intimate relationship with her boss, which in any case is frowned upon at minimal and often times is actually breaking rules/regulations/etc. None the less, I think this extension is deserved and I hope this momentum continues. GO HAWKS

Even with very successful years in football and basketball, the attendance hasn't been all that impressive.

Barta hasn't figured out the marketing aspect of the program.
In football that is a trend that is not isolated to Iowa, but nationwide (still top 25 in attendance too, and I doubt we are top 25 in max capacity FWIW). Also, it should be noted that marketing is not Barta's job as an AD.
I think CHA is due for some major upgrades which will help with this. Kinnick, Duane Banks Field, and CHA have all under gone some major needed improvement under the leadership of Barta and from what I have been hearing CHA and Kinnick will be getting some more needed upgrades in the near future. Adding practice facilities in both bball and football were huge. It also appears as though new Dorms are being added for athletes as well, which is also very much needed. I like Barta for that reason, he is not OK with being behind the "arms race" and will continue to push forward to making this improvement happen

Attendance is down nationwide, specifically because of Barta. That's a fact!

The guy has done an excellent job with facility upgrades as well.

Solid post; I don't completely disagree.

Personally I just hope someone else is in charge when it's time to pick KF's replacement.

That might be true....but somehow Pollard over there in Ames has marketed a crappy football program and attendance is at an all time high. He did the same with the basketball program when McDermott was the coach when wins weren't as common......after a 5 year stretch of a lot of wins and tickets are hard to come by.

Some people don't like Pollard, but he's been fantastic at marketing Iowa St. He immediately made tickets cheaper in the less desirable sections and the younger fan base bought in. If the younger crowd doesn't attend games, then at some point no one will.
