Hoiberg is going to be fired at Nebraska barring some miracle finish to their season.
Are there any other coaches in danger of being fired? Johnson is only in his second season, and the program was not in a healthy place. I think he will be back.
Is there a surprise firing out there? Holtmann or Gard, maybe? We still don't know for sure all of the reasoning behind Chryst leaving Wisconsin, but that was a shocking departure. Would there be another one in Madison? Holtmann has not produced relative to the talent he has at OSU.
Discuss.

Hoiberg won't be fired this year.

I think there is going to be some patience with him. He is focused on keeping in state talent and that message comes thru. He is a long way from the hot seat for now.
Thing is even Lick won 6, 5, and 4 conference games. And he stayed out of the cellar every season.

Minnesota was last place with 4 wins last year. Will be last place this year. I don’t see any way they get better than 4 wins and even that will be a stretch for them.

I don’t think he gets fired this year, but his Minnesota centric recruiting isn’t working well for them right now. There has been some high-end talent to come out of the state, but Minnesota has struggled to keep them home and he hasn’t changed that yet. And working against him, the upcoming recruiting classes for the state don’t have much talent in them. Iowa has better HS prospects coming out this year than Minnesota.

I believe he took a pay cut, and his contract was restructured to make a buyout less painful to Nebraska. I might be wrong. Just going off of memory. He's had plenty of time to start turning things around.

I believe Johnson has a top 10 7 fter from Cali locked up for next year and the overall class ranking is quite high
He is safe for this year.
Holman is the obvious one but he is a good recruiter.
Last year he had the best frosh in the league in braham..he went pro.
He has the best frosh this year in Sensebaugh and he will probably go pro.
That is a killer for team success.
Maybe he is too good at recruiting

Johnson is likely safe for another 1-2 unless several players leave.
Terrible stretch for them right now losing 3 by a total of 90+ pts.
Fan base is falling apart but as someone mentioned he has a 5 star and also a couple other rated kids coming in.
Talking with gopher fans they say the university is in a tough spot. They hired Johnson for a few reasons. Could recruit the instate kids and he is black. That was a major factor in his hire after the Strib went after the university for having so few black staff in the athletic department.

You say "locked up", but is that even a thing anymore given the portal? Who knows...

I would say,

1) Holtman - not sure the talent is that great.
2) Gard - if things keep going the way they are.
3) Hoiberg/Johnson
Gard?! I get that Wisconsin's standards are MUCH higher than Iowa's but after regular season big ten titles in 20 and 22 that could be a little extreme. Even for them

Hoiberg is on the edge of accomplishing something,.. he won't be fired.

I don’t see how Minnesota can let Johnson dig the hole much bigger.
I agree as I have stuck up for Johnson, but they are bad especially without Garcia. But, they will probably play like Globetrotters against Iowa.

Maybe Garcia will hit the portal again. I think Iowa recruited him pretty hard out of HS. Iowa really needs big men next year too.

tOSU slips to 3-10 in conference play after losing at home to NW tonight.
That seems unacceptable in Columbus.

How can Iowa lose by double digits to OSU and they can't beat anyone else? 1-10 in last 11.

I would agree with Holtman. He doesn't even seem to be coaching during the games, letting his assistants do most of the work. Couple their losing with a half empty arena and I can't see how THE Ohio State can let these indignities go on for much longer.

OSU is 1-12 over their last 13 games. They play at Purdue on Sunday.

This is Holtmann's 6th year at OSU. He won 25 games in year 1. Since then, he's won 20 games twice and 21 games twice. Overall he is 118-71 (.624) at OSU.

Thad Matta, in 13 years at OSU, was 337-123 (.733). In 10 of those 13 seasons he won 22 or more games (6 times he won 26 or more games).

Fran is 259-171 or .602 at Iowa. I wasn't a math major but Holtmann has been better, he woulda made the ncaa tourney every yr of his tenure til this one if they had one in 2020. Does that mean Fran should be on the hot seat next time he doesn't make it? I don't think so, but next yr could be rough without big portal help

Seems like OSU has different expectations and a shorter leash? And it seems like after a bad loss, people on here are always ready to move on from Fran.

And when it comes to Iowa, I agree. Losing Kris & Filip will be tough holes to fill and it would help to land an experienced big in the portal.

He isn't on the hot seat, but PSU could be looking for a new coach come April. Micah Shrewsbury is getting a few mentions for taking the Notre Dame job. It makes a little sense given his resume.

Holtman was as well before the losing really took the sails out of it. Fran was also mentioned. Alot of job openings coming up. I would not be surprised if Howard moves on from Michigan. Seems like a NBA type to me and his son probably goes pro.

Surprisingly, Ohio St. seems to be willing to be very patient with Holtman. He does recruit well and has won in the past, but basketball is not the driving force there. Frankly, I don't see any B1G coaches that are on the hot seat THIS year. That may change next year if trends continue. And for all of you hoping McCaffery is one of them, stop and think who his AD is and how likely is he to make such a change.

Just lost their prized recruit. Asked for release from commitment.

Musselman was the No brainer hire. Somehow they blew that.
Massive loss for goofs.
Will likely lose another recruit too from Illinois.
Couple of their young players may bail and hit the transfer portal.
I thought Johnson had at least another year.
Now not so sure.

St Thomas wants to get into the Big East eventually (they have the money to do it and a new arena coming) and if they do gophers will be #2 in the twin cities.

Hotseat at Iowa? only a couple of mentions in this discussion

is Iowa now willing to accept non performance in basketball as well as football?
