BBC UNHAPPY ABOUT US GOVERNMENT FUNDING CUT

Why in the Sam Hell was the US Taxpayer funding the BBC in the first Goddamned place???????

The thing that makes this so damned hilarious is that the word "free" as used in the BBC statement could have any of like 5 or 6 different meanings, given that it involves the transfer of money and depending on who it is referring to.

As much as I actually like the BBC (was watching some of their coverage last night and was laughing at how they sort of present the political issues of the day as though they are going to be determined by "experts" rather than actual politicians), it's also sort of funny that they don't seem to realize that while in their country, the principal organ of the "free" press (them) is actually an entity operating under a royal charter and operating agreement with the secretary of state, and funded via a tax on every british household, whereas in our country, the media organizations, well, aren't. Thats some damn solid reporting there.

This stuff is way too deep, too complicated for someone like PF to comprehend and relate accurately. And PF is probably part of the “magma cum laude” MAGA patrol that trolls here.
i honestly thought you were going to go with smegma cum laude after thunderlips' post,, but I'll accept it.

I read that as press free from state coercion, which is laudable.

But the BBC has never made an argument that it isn’t the government…I’m sure it prides itself on “accuracy” but never its independent status…
uh...but their statement specifically invoked the 'free press' thingy.

and ironic, given their structure.

Either way, I have my doubts whether the loss of usg revenue will affect the way they do their job.
Sure, I doubt that matters much in the grand scheme of things. Not really what I care about.

What does matter to me is A) whether or not proper procedure was followed in defunding something like this (seemingly not so since it would've been congressionally approved spending) and B) the propaganda attached to this information as it is disseminated from Musk and his adherents. (See OP)

Proper procedure? No way… this is a power grab and all is fair in love and war., They can disrupt in a week abd will take years to put it back together…. And cost us taxpayers much, much more to rebuild it.
