Elizabeth Bowman was a lifelong Chicago sports fan. But there was one Chicago athlete she did not care for: Jay Cutler.

"Elizabeth Porter Bowman, 78, of Northbrook, Illinois died peacefully January 9, 2016, surrounded by her children," reads her obituary posted on the Chicago Tribune's obituary page. "Betsy was an elementary school teacher and later a tutor, but her passion and focus was being a dedicated and involved mother and grandmother.

"She was a woman of loyalty, integrity, opinion, curiosity and intelligence. A lifelong fan of the Cubs, Blackhawks and Bears (except Jay Cutler)."

Cutler, who just finished his seventh season with the Bears, has long been a polarizing figure in Chicago. In those years, he has led the team to only one playoff victory.

In 2014, the Bears signed the quarterback to a new seven-year deal.

"My mom liked her Chicago sports figures to be representative of Chicago, players who gave it their all," said son Peter Bowman, of Mill Valley, Calif., on Saturday. "But Jay Cutler had that look on his face like he didn't care. And he did disappoint."

He said his mom would call him every week and often during these last few Bears seasons, before even saying hello, "she would say, 'the Bears stink. Cutler stinks.' "

Her passion about Chicago sports and her distaste for Culter was a running joke in the family and so when it came time to compose her death notice, Peter Bowman and his sister Susan didn't hesitate to add the Cutler reference.

"My mom is getting the biggest kick out of this right now," he said. "We never imagined that this story would take off like it has and trending as it has. It's making me smile and laugh."

A memorial for Elizabeth Bowman is scheduled for June 18 at St. James the Less in Northfield.
