Forget about PSU! Iowa will battle Ohio State and Michigan for 2nd. Anyone care to do lineups? Michigan looks dam solid at hwt,33,65,97,84,and 57! All AAs and a few possible champs.Especially ,Micic,Coon, and Massa. Whatcha think?

He would look better in black and gold.

he's from Michigan.

they'll have a salty line-up for sure

125-Assad
133-Micic
141-Profaci/Fisher
149-Malik Amine
157-Pantaleo
165-Massa
174-Myles Amine
184-Abounader
197-Beazley
285-Coon

could be a podium team if they max out.

They look good on paper. When they actually perform good, we can take them as a threat. I think the Hawks finish ahead of them at the NCAAs. The Hawks are going to have a lot of young and fired up blood in the line up with a leader like BS showing them the way.

Michigan is solid up and down. Don't see any title contenders in that lineup though. Pantaleo looked great at US Open. I think he'll be a thread to BS or Kem if at 57.

They'll be very good next year, it's crazy that even if Mahomes is finally healthy he might not have a spot anymore with amine at 74. Mahomes has wins over guys like nate Jackson, Pete renda, lelund weatherspoon, and Myles Martin in his college career but injuries have really slowed him down

Mahomes was amazing right outta the (true freshmen) gates.

unfortunately, his career is done.

hall will not be back at UM.

I agree PSU is far ahead of the field. Then it'll probably be Okie St. and Ohio St. battling it out for 2nd-3rd. I would throw Michigan in the 4-6 range with Iowa and Minnesota. If Lee and Warner were wrestling next year I would give the Hawks a shot at 2nd but without them in the line-up I just don't see it. Finishing 4th next year would be a great job IMO.

Pantaleo at 157 with Hall at 149

Rumor is Hall is transferring out. So Malik Amine should man the spot. With the Amine learning curve and pedigree, I expect him to be as good as or better than Hall(still not likely to win more than a match or 2 at NCAA's).

Here is their most probable lineup with some depth and backstory:

125:Assad had his freshman season cut short due to injuries. was 18-3 as a redshirt and a two time Fargo Free champ. If healthy, he could challenge for a bottom podium spot with 3 Senior AA's graduating.
133:Micic-Finalist potential. Although I wouldn't pick him to win it all, he probably has the best chance on the team.
141:Their one "hole" Profaci is a .500 type. Fisher is similar. The wildcard will be True Freshman Freeman. 4x MI state champ and multiple Fargo AA. Just took 4th at Junior Free at 63kg. Still I don't see much more than a NQ here.
149:Amine-I could see him winning a match or 2 at NCAA's.
157:pantaleo-He looks like he has filled out for the weight going 70kg at the Open. Could challenge anyone not named Nolf for a high podium spot.
165:Massa-Man this kid is good. I still can't believe he lost to Joseph. At one point a stat flashed across the screen that he had 10 shots to Joseph's ZERO. He doesn't seem to match up well with Martinez, but if he improves any little bit into next season he will be very hard to beat.
174:Amine-Knowing the Amine's I shouldn't have been surprised, but he DID surprise me. He got tougher and tougher as the season went on. If Z. Valencia stays at 174 along with Hall and BoJo, I see him at 4th. If Valencia goes up and Joseph and Hall switch weights, you could have a surprise Finalist.
184:Abounader-This guy benefited greatly from his injury. He avoided one of the deepest weights I can remember. 184 thins out considerably and I could see him fighting for a mid level podium spot.
197:Beazley-How about getting an AA transfer at the thinnest weight that looks like it even got thinner? A mid level AA finish is likely.
285:Coon-The best guy on their team, sadly he has the least chance to win it because Snyder is there.

They have a great chance at 7 AA's and finalists at 133, 165 and 285. If they can stay healthy(which hasn't seemed to happen in quite some time) they will be a very strong tournament team. Still, they are a ways behind PSU and tOSU.

They saved up for a one shot season I sure the hell hope they could finish ahead of us when we are actually saving back some. They lose their 3 heaviest weights after this year. I'm hoping Wagner/Stickley will be good enough to make 125 a possible win here.

Based on Assads freshman season before he got hurt I can't see him challenging for a podium spot unless he's made some serious gains since his injury. I do agree with the rest of your post though

Don't quote me on it but I think he was dealing with the physical issues which made his season drop off prior to it shutting down for the year. Potential is the only real reason I see him possibly challenging for a fringe AA spot. I wouldn't bet on it, but 125 is always a guess down low.

Ouch

Michigan is solid up and down. Don't see any title contenders in that lineup though. Pantaleo looked great at US Open. I think he'll be a thread to BS or Kem if at 57.

Massa is a definite title contender IMO. Will not be easy to beat IMar, but we've seen it can be done. And of course there is Joseph, but those two (Joseph and Massa) are pretty even.

I would also label Micic as a title contender, though not the favorite. But if NaTo moves to 125, Micic has a legit title shot IMO.

Coon would be a title contender, if not for Snyder. Still, he is a likely finalist.

Abounader looks to be a mid-to-high AA, and maybe Pantaleo and Amine as well. If things break right, who knows?

So that's three potential finalists a three other mid to high AAs. That's pretty good, and definitely good enough to make the team podium.
