Great topic! I'm not particularly superstitious, but I've tailgated all 12 games this year with good ol' PBR, so I'm not F'ing with karma!

If you want to grab something special for tomorrow, I'd say go with one of the many great IOWA microbrews... Any beer by Toppling Goliath is beer heaven, but spendy... just be careful with the SR-71 Blackbird... it is an extraordinary double imperial stout, but at 14% alcohol, u may miss the game.

A few other great IOWA brewers are Millstream, Peachtree, Backpocket.

So, if you are looking to treat yourself on this historic day and looking for some lucky libations, grab a bottle of Templeton Rye, and some great IOWA beers to chase it!

hmmm - i do like TG stuff, but haven't had that imp. stout (my favorite variety). gonna try to dig one of those up (difficult?)

SR-71 is one of the rarest stouts on the planet, so don't hold your breath on that one. Most of TG's stuff is available on the shelf in most places in Iowa depending on the time of month (e.g., Sue, Light Speed, Pompeii, etc) and is absolutely worth the purchase if you see it and it's fresh. You really can't go wrong with anything they do and it really is one of the top breweries in the world right now, all in little Decorah, IA.

I have a soiree to attend in Eau Claire, WIS this afternoon but on the ride home I will be drinking something lite...probably a Leinies Honey Weiss (can's not bottles since can's are easier to dispose of while driving.) Once I get home I believe I will rotate New Glarus Staghorn Oktoberfest with Leinie's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter. The Staghorn and the Porter have been solid this season, my drinking those practically guarantees a Hawkeye win. I believe my wife has chosen a Pinot Noir (Williamette Valley Oregon, not Californian--California Pinot Noir is not a Hawkeye wine)...it should be a helluva game.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo's mixed in with Heiny's so as to not get too drunk.

Coors early, Heineken pre-game, J & B scotch whiskey and water for the win.

Champagne of Beers. All day. I've had at least one for every game this year so I'm keeping the streak alive. I'm not really superstitious, but why risk it.

Shiner Wicked Ram...great IPA from the Shiner Brewing company combined with Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. I get the side eye from the wife with this combination and it should be interesting by kickoff.

Toppling Goliath Psuedo Sue for me. Bought some gas station in CR out of it last night :)

just hit the ol' hyvee for my game day bevy's:

pregame/early game:
- kalona sheer madness
- sierra nevada porter
- backpocket exaggerator

will go the the bomber collection after those if the game seems to be going right (or if we're having the correct amount of fun).

envisioning a big pour of templeton and a cigar after the game.....

Did you stop by the pharmacy for your liver meds? :D

Starting with a Dogfishhead 90 minute IPA, followed by Founders Breakfast Stout, last North Coast Old Rasputin.

I have a 5 Gal keg of Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue. Two double Growlers of Confluence West Des Moines IPA. 2 six packs of Green Flash dIPA. A growler of Confluence Wise Grip. A 12 of Nooner (sierra nevada) Lager. 2 loins and two whole chickens and one brisket on over the Mesquite. Two 4 paks of surley helles lager and a crap load of chips/nuts/cheese/chili/soup/candy/cotton candy.. Whole neighborhood at my house. Games on TV in family room and in the hawkeye man cave. But the best is the new projector in the back yard casting a 25 foot image onto a makeshift drive inn theater screen. Fireplace in back yard is lit. GO HAWKS.

Watched Iowa beat Nebraska in 2013 at the Greenbush Brewery in Sawyer, Michigan. Imposed a rule last Friday that only Greenbush beers could be consumed during the game. Good karma.

Distinctly recall that we were having Sam Adams Boston Lager when Stanzi hit McNutt for the winning TD against MSU. So ... today it shall be Sam Adams Boston Lager.

I have an Evil Twin Even More Jesus and a recently acquired Bourbon County Coffee Stout stashed in the back of the fridge should Iowa win.

I think God may have crafted the Leinie Snowdrift vanilla porter. It is outstanding.

Loved reading all the beer selections. I like the "Captain and Coke" reference. I'm going with a dos xx beer pregame with some whisky and cokes during the game!
