This says the award goes to the top FIRST TIME D1 coach, which I don’t believe that was Lick’s first year in D1 at Butler? So we should be fine 😉

Quick research looks like 34 coaches were eligible, and his biggest competition would have been Kevin Young from BYU (26-10) or maybe Youngstown State coach (21-13)

Looking at that list of coaches, there are only 9 NCAA titles won by active coaches (Calipari, Drew, Hurley (2), Izzo, Pitino (2) and Self (2)), and only 6 by coaches at their current school (no Calipari or Pitino). That seems low to me, but I guess some big-time coaches have retired in the last few years.
Look closer. This award is specifically for a "first time" D1 coach. Not history repeating itself.
That's kind of misleading as the University of Iowa played no part in him getting the award.
He may have actually won the award elsewhere, but I'm not gonna be mad he's on that poster as the Iowa coach and with UI gear.

That’s what I get out of it. Should be D1 national coach of the year. Amazing what his record was basically starting with a new roster. No other coach did that with the amount of money he had to work with.
He is nothing like Lick. I met Lick at his introductory PC. I told my dad after we were in trouble. Zero presence or charisma.
Agree. Anyone who can’t see the difference between McCollum and Lickliter is a fool.

Clearly a big difference between Ben and Lick - but that doesn’t mean every single one of us didn’t have a little pause when we first read the news! 😂
It makes for great memes and gifs, but that’s all. McCollum did not have a maestro behind him like Lickliter did. Barta hired the wrong coach from Butler. Goetz did not hire the wrong coach from Drake.
Also of note. Lick wasn't the Naismith COTY he was the NABC COTY. Tony Bennett was the Naismith winner.
Totally agree. I thought Iowa had hired a new librarian (no offense to librarians!).
