My biggest issue with freeman is he looks like he put on bad weight. He looks like he just ate in the offseason and didn't put in the work in the weight room. I think that's why he looked slow and couldn't jump very well.

I don’t disagree with you, but I won’t be shocked if Stirtz isn’t a Hawkeye next season.
His world has done a 180 over last year. Iowa most likely won’t be the highest bidder for him, so the pitch needs to be a combination of “here is a reasonable NIL deal and the opportunity to play with your coach.” If that doesn’t happen, I won’t fault the kid for going somewhere else.

Barta, the brilliant white man who kept giving raises to a football coach who refused to play offense, hired his unqualified son, and then promoted him. Barta, who handed out the most ridiculous contracts in college sports with bonuses and payouts no average fifth-grade would have agreed to. Barta, the white man who stuck his head in the sand and ignored NIL, placing Iowa in a huge hole compared to its peers. Barta, the white man who lost lawsuits and cost the university millions because he couldn't keep a few simple records that any middle schooler would have done.

Regarding Lickliter, I recall the majority of fans being super excited about the hire. Way more than when Fran was brought in. He was the reigning coach of the year and had the world convinced he was a great coach. Little did we know Brad Steven’s was the puppet master. Barta gets a pass for that hire (in my book).

And she should get credit for that as well as securing donors is a very real part of the AD's job.

I would hope there is loyalty there for Stirtz. He had the talent and potential to be a great player. BMc was able to develop that and put Stirtz in a system that got it out of him. If he had gone anywhere else would that have happened.

No, Barta does not get a pass for hiring a guy before proper vetting. I'm sure it would not have taken much deep-diving to figure out what was going on with Butler's MBB program. The TL hire was an absolute, total and complete fail and inexcusable. The only hire at Iowa the past 40 years worse than BF.

Why would anyone want a Luka Garza or a Josh Dix or a Pryce Sandfort or a Bennett Stirtz or a Cooper Flagg? Or maybe Iowa needs good players, even if they're White. I don't know. Just spitballin'.

If it was so obvious, he wouldn’t have been national coach of the year. Should Barta have known? Maybe, I suppose that’s his job and he deserves to get the L for that hire. It’s easy to look back and say “what a terrible hire,” but there were very few fans that weren’t excited at the time of the hiring. And that’s coming from a Barta hater.
At most universities with major sports programs, it would have been worthy of termination. Too bad Sally Mason didn't give two sh*ts about athletics.
