*****Bennett Stirtz & Isaia Howard will follow Ben McCollum to Iowa City. Who else will be? 10 of 15 Roster spots filled*****

Freeman looks like a bad NIL Value to me. Undesized when playing against 7fters and foul prone and bad FT shooter. Then there is the issue he quit on his team---maybe his Papa told him to do it, who knows if it was his own choice to shut down.

Freeman will give his next team 16 ppg on a normal pace squad. He won't get all those run out baskets going the other direction after giving up a score. That was mainly a FRAN thing to give up an easy baskets and then hope to get one back.

Sounds like Freeman might be a $2 million/yr type NIL guy...that is getting into Coleman Hawkins regime. At KState Coleman was crying about his contract getting outed and then gong through the season being heckled as a Bust. Dickerson from MIchigan also getting called out for being overpaid non-winner at Kansas. Freeman might be wise to stay out of Kansas.
My biggest issue with freeman is he looks like he put on bad weight. He looks like he just ate in the offseason and didn't put in the work in the weight room. I think that's why he looked slow and couldn't jump very well.

Maybe not in general, but McCollom and his guys are not the usual story. Stirtz is who he is for two reasons: his own talent and work ethic and Ben McCollom. Stirtz gets its, and I think his teammates do too. They were D-II players that no one wanted, and McCollom led them to a 31-3 record in D-1, including MVC tourney and regular season titles and Drakes first round of 64 NCAA win in over half a century.

Loyalty isn't common these days, but the Drake story isn't either.

In any event, when you have a coach like McCollom, the Jimmys and Joes are less important than in most cases. The evidence makes that clear.
I don’t disagree with you, but I won’t be shocked if Stirtz isn’t a Hawkeye next season.

His world has done a 180 over last year. Iowa most likely won’t be the highest bidder for him, so the pitch needs to be a combination of “here is a reasonable NIL deal and the opportunity to play with your coach.” If that doesn’t happen, I won’t fault the kid for going somewhere else.

I don't know. There are plenty on dolts on this board alone claiming that she's a DEI hire who is a puppet of the UI Prez and BOR and makes no important decisions. And even if they do concede that the BMac hire was all her, they call it a "layup" that was easy and obvious. Don't you just love fans?
Fans? I hate stupid people, and this country is awash in them right now, sports fans being no exception. How else do you explain what's happening right in front of their eyes, a process that began a decade ago, and tens of millions still claim to be oblivious. Meanwhile, a tyrant is attempting to destroy 250 years of democracy.

MAGA hates DEI because they can't stand the competition. A bunch of cultist know-nothings who ban books, erase history, deny science, and promote blind allegiance to ignorance, prejudice, racism, childish name-calling, sexual perversion, blatant criminality, and treason cannot be expected to understand anything that's real. They live in a fantasy land where they are superior. But reality is knocking, and the fantasy is going to explode in their moronic faces. IMHO, of course.

But right now it's time to take your meds and get some exercise. Let's take a walk down to the nurse's station and back.

Take this shit to the off-topic board. I've seen a lot of people that I disagree politically with happy with the McCollum hire. Can't we be united as Hawk fans at the very least? No we have to make everything political because there's not enough of that right now.

Barta, the brilliant white man, did a helluva job, that's for sure, hiring the worst coach I've seen in decades of following college basketball in Todd Lickliter. Barta, the brilliant white man who kept giving raises to a football coach who refused to play offense, hired his unqualified son, and then promoted him. Barta, who handed out the most ridiculous contracts in college sports with bonuses and payouts no average fifth-grade would have agreed to. Barta, the white man who stuck his head in the sand and ignored NIL, placing Iowa in a huge hole compared to its peers. Barta, the white man who lost lawsuits and cost the university millions because he couldn't keep a few simple records that any middle schooler would have done.

Yes, give us more brilliant white leaders like Gary Barta and the Orange Tyrant and the Musk Melon and the Measles Czar and the Fake Hillbilly. What could go wrong?

Beth looks white to me but then again so does Elizabeth Warren.

White men (like Ben McCollum) are absolute sh*t. I don't know why they are not all in concentration camps right now being reeducated or executed.

Much work to be done. Much work.

Go to hell. Nothing going on right now is political. The questions are moral and ethical, not political. Politics left the building in 2015. If you don't like some posts, don't read them . . . or don't have them read to you. United as Hawkeye fans?! LOL

Some Hawkeye fans are saying Beth Goetz was a DEI hire. That's the shit that has no business on any board. When people say that kind of garbage, it demands a response, at least it does if you have any sense of fairness. And as long as there's a First Amendment, buckle up, pal. Because the attacks on ignorance and sexism and racism and general idiocy will continue. You're welcome.

Thats three reasons.
Just sayin.

Regarding Lickliter, I recall the majority of fans being super excited about the hire. Way more than when Fran was brought in. He was the reigning coach of the year and had the world convinced he was a great coach. Little did we know Brad Steven’s was the puppet master. Barta gets a pass for that hire (in my book).

Sadly Fran did the same thing with Mel Basabe and it took away his quickness and bounce. It failed in both cases.

This. Beth will get the credit for the hire (which she should), but it wouldn’t be possible without some deep pocket donors.
And she should get credit for that as well as securing donors is a very real part of the AD's job.

We used to have an AD very good at raising money but bad at contracts and hiring. Now we have an AD good at both it seems.

Cant believe K State feels like they got their moneys worth. LOL. 16-17 overall for the season.

I would hope there is loyalty there for Stirtz. He had the talent and potential to be a great player. BMc was able to develop that and put Stirtz in a system that got it out of him. If he had gone anywhere else would that have happened.

That’s a good point. Donors aren’t willingly giving money to their favorite school if they don’t like the AD.

No, Barta does not get a pass for hiring a guy before proper vetting. I'm sure it would not have taken much deep-diving to figure out what was going on with Butler's MBB program. The TL hire was an absolute, total and complete fail and inexcusable. The only hire at Iowa the past 40 years worse than BF.

yeah, the highest bidder days are here, unfortunately.

NIL, my ass. We all know this is pay to play and nothing more.
I will let the other suckers buy players. If someone wants to pony up 10 million to buy decent players then let them.

Absolutely. Lickliter was Barta's hire, and he can own it. I'm not going to excuse the guy because he wasn't familiar enough with who/what he was hiring.

I remember thinking when BG was hired how all the GB apologists claimed how great he was at fundraising. All I could think about was "I can't wait for the new AD to be an even better fundraiser, plus a ton better at the hiring/contracts part." I think we're there.

ridiculous, he's not worth half that amount, but some coach will pony up that sum thinking he will improve, we'll see.

If it was so obvious, he wouldn’t have been national coach of the year. Should Barta have known? Maybe, I suppose that’s his job and he deserves to get the L for that hire. It’s easy to look back and say “what a terrible hire,” but there were very few fans that weren’t excited at the time of the hiring. And that’s coming from a Barta hater.
