I hope they take a million or two from the FB pool. A couple of players can really make a huge difference in BB. That's not the case for FB.
How many true portal players has Iowa FB brought in? Cade, All, a couple of OL, the LB? Who else? Iowa seems to spend their $$ on maintaining their roster. I don't know the breakdown, but I wouldn't be opposed to KFz donating a mil or so to the MBB program.

I don't know. There are plenty on dolts on this board alone claiming that she's a DEI hire who is a puppet of the UI Prez and BOR and makes no important decisions. And even if they do concede that the BMac hire was all her, they call it a "layup" that was easy and obvious. Don't you just love fans?
So you think this was a difficult decision to hire Ben? OK, this is for you:

Sadly Fran did the same thing with Mel Basabe and it took away his quickness and bounce. It failed in both cases.
Garza too, but Luka was still a baller. I wonder though if he had played at a weight that he's currently at, whether it would have help him play D at Iowa.

If it was so obvious, he wouldn’t have been national coach of the year. Should Barta have known? Maybe, I suppose that’s his job and he deserves to get the L for that hire. It’s easy to look back and say “what a terrible hire,” but there were very few fans that weren’t excited at the time of the hiring. And that’s coming from a Barta hater.
You're still being too kind. It's not the job of sportswriters/coaches who vote on awards to know the ins-and-outs of various basketball programs, and it sure as heck isn't the job of the fans. But it absolutely IS the job of a guy hiring a dude for a multi-million dollar contract that will have lasting effects on the MBB program to know what's going on behind the scenes. Shit. If GB had actually done a thorough job, maybe IOWA would have had Brad Stevens....

No, Barta does not get a pass for hiring a guy before proper vetting. I'm sure it would not have taken much deep-diving to figure out what was going on with Butler's MBB program. The TL hire was an absolute, total and complete fail and inexcusable. The only hire at Iowa the past 40 years worse than BF.
Barta should have known. I mean, that's his job. Or why have an AD at all if, when it comes to making a major coaching hire you just take the guy who was given Coach of the Year. Anybody could have done that. It's the AD's job to dig just a little deeper, and if he had, he'd have hired Brad Stevens. Barta . . . what a dolt.

Feel like Basabe put on too much muscle and Freeman just came back with a belly.
Iowa should recruit Mr. Universe every year. You want strong players. You want weight room rats. Get the best of 'em all. As everyone knows, basketball is all about the muscles.

And why would you say that? What did he play . . . five minutes all year? Maybe he'll be an All-American. Maybe he'll be another Riley Mulvey. I have no idea because I've never seen him play.
Maybe he will be another Mulvey, but he had offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, so a few programs who seem to know how to evaluate talent thought he was worth it. That means something. No one was saying those things about Mulvey coming out of high school. Yes, I would like him to come back.

My biggest issue with freeman is he looks like he put on bad weight. He looks like he just ate in the offseason and didn't put in the work in the weight room. I think that's why he looked slow and couldn't jump very well.
Compare the build of the guys that transferred in vs the ones who have been here since they were Freshmen…

13 minutes per game and shot 43% from 3. Solid rebounder, blocked some shots, got some steals.

He played in 10 games for 136 minutes. Just a feeling. Seemed to have instincts on the court rare for a true FR. We will see.

I suppose. As a certified Barta hater, I defend the Lickliter hire more than most. Even if you knew it was all Stevens, I think you could have made the argument that “Lickliter can identify and hire smart assistants. He has to be doing something right and he’ll continue what he did at Butler when he gets to Iowa City.”

Okay enough rehashing Lickliter, today is a day to celebrate, not to remember the dark days of Iowa basketball 😂

Or maybe a good basketball coach evaluates talent and effort and character instead of skin color. I don't know. I'm no expert.
I would say most do that. It just happens there are a lot more good black players than white players.

That would be insane if the revenue sharing NIL is less than typical for B1G. Some bigger boosters must have stepped forward. I can't imagine Beth telling them she is going to shortchange MBB and they have to come up with extra money. Iowa Athletic Department gets a lot of Iowa foundation money through I-club to tune of $17 million year that depends on long run on healthy MBB and Football. The Football attendance is going to be a sell out no matter how bad the team because it is a Saturday Event In Iowa. The MBB attendance is much more correlated with team W/L success.

I thought someone posted Doctherman & Leistikow saying that Iowa would spend $2.5M of revenue sharing on Iowa MBB.

However, as you can see, the numbers below appear to be "the standard."

I really hope Iowa spends the $3.5M on MBB. They almost have to.

Fans? I hate stupid people, and this country is awash in them right now, sports fans being no exception. How else do you explain what's happening right in front of their eyes, a process that began a decade ago, and tens of millions still claim to be oblivious. Meanwhile, a tyrant is attempting to destroy 250 years of democracy.

MAGA hates DEI because they can't stand the competition. A bunch of cultist know-nothings who ban books, erase history, deny science, and promote blind allegiance to ignorance, prejudice, racism, childish name-calling, sexual perversion, blatant criminality, and treason cannot be expected to understand anything that's real. They live in a fantasy land where they are superior. But reality is knocking, and the fantasy is going to explode in their moronic faces. IMHO, of course.
DEI is about equity not equality. It’s literally the second word.

The difference might be that Iowa might giver more to WBB. Interesting that Tech has $1 million going to other sports. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out
