*****Bennett Stirtz & Isaia Howard will follow Ben McCollum to Iowa City. Who else will be? 9 of 15 Roster spots filled*****

The current NIL system is not sustainable and I am not a big fan. I can still happily follow Iowa sports. Both those things can be true.
Well you might not like it , and it truly does suck, but we should all be happy to be a power 4-5 school. Would you rather be Drake who just got shafted at their best year in 50 years and got a coach for 1 year and is losing his whole team plus the player of the year?

Iowa is one of many schools who have contacted him.

Those in contact: South Carolina, Florida State, Butler, Richmond, Kansas State, Loyola-Chicago, Mississippi State, Illinois, St. Louis, Kansas, Boise State, DePaul, George Washington, USC, Iowa, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Baylor, Oklahoma, Dayton.

He was injured for most of the season. Was productive in the few minutes he played & passed this guys eye test. I'd love him back at Iowa.
Cooper would have benefited from a red shirt year to get stronger and fully healed from summer injury. The skills are there. Now hopefully the coach is in place to improve him.

Maybe he will be another Mulvey, but he had offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, so a few programs who seem to know how to evaluate talent thought he was worth it. That means something. No one was saying those things about Mulvey coming out of high school. Yes, I would like him to come back.
Sure. And as we know, highly recruited players always become stars.

Like I said: Maybe Koch will be an All-American. Maybe he'll be another dud. Nobody knows. So I don't care if he returns or not. But I'm pleased to know that, as I predicted, Drake's D-II PG who had exactly ZERO D-1 offers is coming to Iowa. Where were the Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, and his home team K-State offers when Stirtz was coming out of high school? None of the 364 D-1 schools offered him. Not . . . one.

So that pretty much wraps up my opinion of recruiting in most cases, certainly including Mr. Koch.

BTW: This may not be especially germane, but I can't help but mention it here: When Hayden Fry recruited Chuck Long, who would go on to set all kinds of passing records and be a first team All-American and a narrow runner-up to Bo Jackson for the Heisman Trophy, he had ONE other D-1 offer . . . from Northern Illinois. Long's high school team emphasized the running game, but Fry saw Long's potential as a passer and as a leader. Again, just thought I'd mention it.

It could be worse yes, but having teams spending +$15-20MM more year in and year out - and that chasm could get bigger- also will suck. There needs to be some sort of cap.

So that’s the thing. He’s far from a great player. He’s a good player, and they actually had a few other decent players including their pt guard. And they finished in 11th place in the Valley. He’s worth whatever the market will pay him obviously but this is insane. If he’s worth a million Stirtz is worth 3 million.
Shhhhhh.......

First they need to cap coach's salaries. DeVries and his zero career NCAA Tournament wins was handed $30M and no one bats an eye.

The #1 player in the country gets $4M and there are endless pools of digital ink spilled to whine that it is ruining college basketball.

Drake beat Wichita State in the 2021 tourney. But yes they kind of choked vs Miami (2023) & Washington State (2024).

Uh, oh.......
I’m not too worried about it. From everything he’s saying in interviews, he seems intent on playing for BMac at Iowa next year.

Due diligence to test the NBA waters. Gives him a chance to see what he needs to work on to possibly become a first-round pick.

If they truly have $4.5M they can pay Stirtz and Dix the $3M and Sandford $400k with a base rate of $65K for the rest as they have no starting time and/or minutes to pay more.

they should have at least $5M.

$1.5M was paid in NIL last season (should go up)
$3.5M in revenue sharing is the norm for high major schools
.....................
$5.0M total

I hope your right. It would be just our luck to get the #1 guard in the portal, and then have him never play a game.....

Interesting, he grew up and played high school ball in Joplin, MO, so maybe McCollum has previously recruited him?

Well, look who is #2. ;)

I thought he was going to petition, and likely be granted, a medical redshirt last year due to his medical condition allowed him to only play in 10 games. I guess I haven't heard if that is the case for sure though.

What Dix agent leaks is not necessarily true.
No kidding. I can't imagine that the 3rd best player on a 15th-place B1G team is someone who is going to turn around the fortunes of a competitive team and take them over the top. I would think that is what that amount of $ would be used for. Crazy talk.
