Getting the obvious ones out of the way with Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind...

What you got HROT?

I would add Roman Holiday to the list. Can't go wrong with Peck and Hepburn.

Not a lot of great movies in the '50s, but there were some. "Shane," "The Searchers," "Night of the Hunter," "Rear Window," "From Here to Eternity."

Here's a link to a collection of the greatest movies, sorted by decade.

It would be easy to make the argument that the films released in the 25 years before 1960 were better than the films released in the 25 years after 1960. If only because there were so many more films to choose from.
In what is considered Hollywood's greatest year 365 films were released! The top 25 varies by source but it is hard to argue with most of the choices.

He sings the theme song. Love the movie, but Jim Mitchum and Keely Smith deliver cringeworthy performances.
