Over the years there have been some excellent US cop/mystery TV shows. What are your favorites?

I ask because I have an elderly family member who used to love Brit mysteries like Morse and DCI Banks and Lewis. Also Wallander (Brit made, set in Sweden). Now she has trouble finding shows she wants to watch. So I'm wondering if HROT might have some US shows to recommend.

I'm pretty certain she would like Bosch (on Prime) but she doesn't have Prime set up and won't go to the trouble just based on one show.

US shows I think she's liked in the past are things like NYPD Blue, Hillstreet Blues and her all-time favorite Homicide.

Old people love Longmire

True Detective Season 1

Season 2 is also pretty good but not even close to the quality of season 1.
Season 2 is garbage IMO. I really liked Season 3 but agreed, nothing comes close to season 1.

Not sure if its a good old people show though :)

If she hasn't already seen them, there's enough material in the various shows that make up the Law & Order franchise, to keep her watching from now until death.

I love all of those Brit shows you listed. Has she watched Endeavour, Midsomer Murders or Broadchurch? Maybe try Britbox or Acorn.......perhaps she hasn't exhausted all of the British content out there.

Line of Duty is a really good British crime show as well

An older Brit series I think people will enjoy is Foyle's War.

Columbo is a classic US crime show.

I like the British ones more mainly because all of the US one's that I have seen will completely pass off or excuse blatant violations of a person's rights. And I just can't square seeing someone's rights being blatantly violated and thinking of the cops as the good guys or the heros.

Do you really think Tin Star was that good? It seemed a little over the top with the little stubbose manhandling much bigger guys and out of the world shooting exhibitions while fully loaded(with booze).

Bosch is the only one similar to Banks etc that I know of. The rest are dumbed down or filled with action to keep Americans interested.
Bosch is the frickin man. Spin-off is just as good too

I think the spin-off is showing it's lack of budget, but it's not bad.
I agree to an extent on the budget but the story lines were extremely well written. Maddie as a cop was tougher to get past than the budget IMO. I was skeptical watching Bosch not as a detective but was pleasantly surprised. Was nice to see some of the original characters pop-up through the series too. Second season has a lot of potential with the on-going story lines. Just need to get rid of that god awful opening song lol
