Would like to hear Oakhawk's views, but I wonder if any player ever has developed more than Bethany Doolittle? I remember seeing her when she was a freshman and she would get a few minutes. I thought, this girl is tall but she will never play. She turned out to be quite amazing. I think these Iowa coaches are really good at developing their players. I haven't always felt this way but the evidence now seems overwhelming that they make players much better. And the young ladies are all very good representatives of the U of I. I suppose there have been exceptions but I cannot think of any.

The Iowa staff does a great job with teaching and developing players. Bethany came in as a tall,, slender player who was athletic and could run the floor. She had a nice jump shot. But she was slow in her reactions on defense and a timid rebounder. She leaves as a 2nd team all B1G Ten player, second all-time in blocked shots, a thousand point scorer, and a much, much better rebounder.
Almost every player ends up better after being in the Iowa program.Posts like Jamie Cavey, Morgan Johnson, and Bethany. Guards like Kachine Alexander, who came in as a defensive stopper, then added the dribble drive, then a jump shot, then 3pt range.
This gives me great hopes for Chase Colely, who came in a lot like Bethany. She is athletic, thin, can shoot the ball, and block shots. But Chase can get lost on defense at times. But I think she can can have a career like Beth.
I like the projections for all of last years FR.
As far as players improvement over the course of their careers....
Jamie Cavey came in looking like a project who was too slow and awkward to be an impact player. She left after scoring over 1,200 points and gathering over 500 rebounds. Jerica Watson was another. She was athletic and could jump out of the gym, but was really raw. By her senior year she averaged over 9 rebounds per game and set a record for most rebounds in a game.

Brings up an interesting point. Iowa, under Lisa, has mostly been a developmental program. We didn't get that many elite athletes so we had to develop them. Now the recruiting has really improved and in fact this incoming class is phenomenal. Getting a player like Sam Logic was key and she is as good as you would ever hope for. Now that Lisa is able to bring in better talent, how far can this program soar? And can it continue?

I have enjoyed the insight on the women's program in the board this season and appreciate the posters who contribute. Thank you!

Would you share who does what on the staff- ie guards, posts, defense, offense,
Scouting, etc? They are certainly a great staff and also represent well!

Jenni Fitzgerald is responsible for off campus recruiting and coaches the
perimeter players for the Hawkeyes. She also handles most of the film
breakdown, scouting and directs the summer basketball camps.
Jan Jensen is the Lead recruiter and coaches the post players. She is Associate Head Coach.
Lacey Goldwire works with the wings and does recruiting.
Talia Marks is a recruiting assistant.
Abby Emmert is the DOBO, Director of Basketball Operations.
And Lisa is in charge of the whole operation. She puts in the offensive and defensive schemes. She also calls the offensive plays and defenses during the games.
The scouting is shared depending on the opponent.

No, Jan doesn't make the substitutions. She and Jenni might make suggestions, but Lisa makes the decisions.
