I would agree with this except i havent noticed the rentacop thing. Immediately after Sally Mason's crackdown season? Sure, not after that though.Five years ago I would have said hands down that Iowa had the better environment. Walking along Melrose ... you could feel the energy in the air ... As a former 10-year season ticket holder (ending after 2012) ... the tailgate environment changed ... Too many rent-a-cops ... Melrose vendors disappearing ... More tailgating spots closing ... And of course, we haven't been winning on the field.
ISU is easier to tailgate at ... Iowa still has the atmosphere edge ... I would still give the edge to Iowa for overall experience ...
My comment about the rentacops ... was just one contributing factor ... and it did seem to lighten up a bit after the initial push to crack down on alcohol. It happened to be a major turn off for me. I am in my 40s and had friends of similar age where the "cops" would walk right into our tent and make us pour out any bottle of alcohol that was sitting out ... We were never what you would consider a rowdy bunch. Again, it contributed to the overall experience. Kinnick is still an awesome place to be on game day ... I don't miss my season tickets but may try to make a game this year.I would agree with this except i havent noticed the rentacop thing. Immediately after Sally Mason's crackdown season? I've been to way more ISU games the last 8-9 years and they have a festive and friendly atmosphere but they just don't have the energy.
I would challenge the thousands of people walking down the Kinnick side of Melrose drinking from an open container, last year we walked up from the church, told my sister to finish her beer before we hit Melrose, walked down Melrose, crossed the street by Krause pavilion opened our beer and within a minute I heard the 'folks, folks....folks, don't make me stop you' made us dump that beer out on the Kinnick side of the sidewalk, so it still happens, no ticket just cost me the two beers, not nearly as bad as the Green/Mason debacle year but still out there.
My experience too.Been to fair share of Iowa road games in the big 10. And just like melrose and Iowa their cops don't allow fans to walk on the streets with open containers like the Vegas strip either. And just like Iowa once you got on their lots off the streets can walk wherever with an open beer. Was it nice when they allowed it on Melrose, you bet, but since they don't anymore it's not that big of an adjustment to not drink for 10-15 minutes walking somewhere.
I have been to a lot more ISU games in the last few years thanks to immediate family being season ticket holders and I'd agree on the atmosphere you describe, although every year there is at least one game (excluding Iowa) where the atmosphere is pretty great (Pre-kickoff and Early in the Baylor game was a loud environment)I would agree with this except i havent noticed the rentacop thing. Immediately after Sally Mason's crackdown season? Sure, not after that though.

I asked which is better. Keep upToo funny, he asked for peoples opinion, doesn't get the answer he's looking for, so tells them to stop crying...smh

Barta "DESTROYED" the west parking lot by taking out tents. It's not even full anymore. IT SUCKS!!!! Iowa State wins hands down. And they have a better game day experience too. It kills me to say this, but, that's what happens when the AD takes his eye off the ball and sells out to big money.
Oh................and what happens? TICKET SALES GO DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it depends on what you're looking for. The atmospheres and venues are pretty much completely different.
Dude, have you been to an ISU game lately? By the end of October the stadium is 3/4th's filled if that. They have some of the worst fair-weather fans...literally, bad weather moves in they're OUT. But those who stay I have respect for.Barta "DESTROYED" the west parking lot by taking out tents. It's not even full anymore. IT SUCKS!!!! Iowa State wins hands down. You can call me a liar if you like. It was the sidewalk in front of the Krause pavilion, was told it was university property and we couldn't drink there. I pointed out the people in the pavilion with beer. Just an FYI that is where the Kinnick statue is located. The atmosphere has changed, not to the extent that the first crackdown had, when Marion cops were the role models . Maybe it's the uninspiring football that is contributing to it.I presume you are talking about the bridge, literally the only place where they go that. You can walk from Finkbine to the bridge, throw it away, cross the bridge, and then open an entire 30 pack on the other side.
Unless you think that everyone outside Stella's who is buying canned beer from the sidewalk is being harassed?
Plus, I'm not even sure where you are talking about, considering you can drink in the west lot and I presume Krause. The other side is private.
I'm not calling you a liar, I'm saying you are in some small, small minority based on my, and every person I've talked to since 2011 experience.
I think fans ruined Olive Court. It used to be a great spot but people just started trashing the place. It looked like a war zone post game.
They put condo's up where olive ct was right? It's not even there any more?
