Yeah we're shit but we're better than last year and the year before. We are going to win some games. Yesterday sucked but I think it's going to be a fun season.

Autumn and college football what great time of year. Had a wonderful day yesterday grilling with the family. Caught some of the game on the tv.
agreed. Yesterday was more about not taking care of the ball and finishing drives against an elite defense. Last few years Iowa might have had more first downs on the first two drives yesterday than they would’ve all game Vs a defense like that.
Yup, only saw bits and pieces. Would liked to have won but maybe next week.
I know it’s sacrilegious to question our defense…but is it fair to point out that there’s been a pretty significant dropoff?
Are we really? Our defense is not better. We’re 2-2. We still can’t throw and the only part of our offense that’s been effective is our running game. Well win some games it nothing is going to come easy for this team. Once again we might have the worst WR’s in college football.
I actually think the defense is a couple steps down from the last few years.
The crazy thing is that I do think our O is significantly better than the last few years under Brain. I think Brain's O would have been shut down at a historical level at tOSU. As in less than 50 total yards, less than 5 first downs, certainly 0 points, etc. It was ugly but I have no doubt it would have been uglier still with Brain leading the O.
The D has been disappointing, to be sure. Pretty surprising, considering that so many guys returned. Hopefully they rally going forward, knowing that we don't play any very good teams the rest of the way. The talent certainly seems to be there.

This is an average Iowa team at best with a poor offense. KF’s keeps wasting defenses these last three years. The man doesn’t have the drive necessary to play to win conference championships or desire to have a team in the play offs. He would have been fired long ago at any SEC school.
Even Michigan's great defense wore down against Washington yesterday when the offense turned it over and stalled. No one on the schedule we can't beat ( or lose to )...

Yes. Last year playing Penn State they had 4 total first downs all game. Michigan in big ten title 7 and Ohio State in 22 they had 8.
This is Bob Cummings era football offensively or actually worse. We should not be celebrating 1st downs for goodness sakes. We’re a proud program in a top 2 conference in the country. We should be celebrating touchdowns, not 1st downs.

The problem is we’re not even competitive vs good teams and it’s a coin flip vs shit teams.
Iowa lost several NFL caliber players on defense over the past two years, it was inevitable there would be some drop off.

Totally fair. There's a difference between an AA type player (Higgins, Jackson, Castro) and an AA (Campbell, DeJean) who will be a highly coveted NFL draft pick.
The D is still good because we have a bunch of good to pretty good players on D, nobody elite though.
You do know that their 2nd stringers are all top recruits, very good to superb athletes with great football skills. Some of their 2nd team defenders might or would be starting for us. And they were trying for the shutout. I can confirm this is Commings style football.
We are not shit. The hawks just crushed a Minny team that then beat #11 USC.
Some of it is about matchups. We do not have the overall speed to keep up with offenses like Ohio St, Tenn, Mich, and Penn St, the last really good teams we have played.
U Wash probably has faster players but maybe we can match up with them at a skill level.
I see better pass routes run and catches by our WRs. Wetjen broke open for what could have been a TD catch. So we need more consistent QB play and Cade makes good throws and then not so good throws.
If we match up with a team we can run on that can take the pass rush off of our line. All about matchups.
The next game is the only game. Wash can throw the ball so we may see a little more blitzing, we shall see
Agreed. Pretty sad that my first thought was when we actually picked up a few first downs was “it’s better than it has been” Disappointing it has gotten to this point.

Damn right ... only lost 7-35. Not the usual 0-35 vs teams with a pulse. This program took a big step.
