Anyone else notice this? Saw him on camera several times. Wouldnt that have been the first time as the OC?

I like BFs passion and excitement. Might help bring a needed dimension to the team if he were on the field. He'd need a trusty spotter upstairs though.

But press box or sidelines, BF was equally unimpressive in his rookie year as OC. So I imagine another year or two of such mediocrity should win him the job as Iowa's next head coach...if only Barta can keep his job until KF is ready to hang it up. Nice work if you can get it.

It wasn't a great season for BF, but it wasn't a terrible season for him either. The offense was inconsistent, and the production against Wisconsin was inexcusable - the worst offensive game I have ever seen from Iowa. There were other bad games as well, most notably Northwestern where we only need to score more than 10 points in regulation to win. However, there were also very good performances against Iowa State, OSU, and Nebraska.

Overall, Iowa finished 5th in the Big 10 in scoring offense which was tied with the 2015 season for highest Big 10 ranking since 2008 when we finished 2nd. The total offensive numbers were not as good (finished 10th in the Big 10) but that was an improvement from last year and we undeniably faced a tougher schedule this year. That improvement is made more impressive considering we lost a 3rd round QB, 5th round TE, and leading WR from last year, and lost our top two offensive tackles to injury this year.

All things considered, BF was okay in his first season but will need to make significant improvements to win over a large portion of the fan base. I certainly think he is an improvement over Greg Davis, but that isn't saying too much.

BF was pretty good for a first year coordinator with no legit Big Ten receivers and a patch work offensive line. They were 6 spots better efficiency wise than last year on offense.

FWIW, while I don't think BF was super as an OC in his first year, I don't think he was overall terrible either. I really think the key is to get some better "down the field" WR's. I think one of the key plays in the game last night was the very beautiful throw that Stanley made to Easley...only that was the only such play that I recall. (There were other successful passes, but mostly short dump offs, IIRC.)

Get some downfield threats and successfully use them a few times a game and POOF, the OC will go from average to awesome in a New York minute.

Regarding the Northwestern game: that was mostly just missed opportunities that cost them the game.
First half.
Iowa decided to be aggressive and went for it on 4th and 5 on Northwestern's 28 and they don't get any points>
Next drive go all the way to the Northwestern 19 and miss a field goal. So instead of being up by at least 13 at half, they are only up 7. There were also numerous big drops in that game as well. Same with the PSU and MSU games.

The fact that Iowa was 5th in the league in points and had even a decent passing game was a minor miracle. New QB, only returning receiver coming off 2 broken feet, both senior tackles lost for the year. Slot receiver a walk-on. It doesn't mean things couldn't have been better, but not bad for a first year given the context. What I would like to see change is more flexibility with running gap/power schemes in addition to zone, and in going being more aggressive in when teams are selling out to stop the run.

Need to get 1-2 more receivers to go with Easley and ISM. Real receiving threats. Tracy will have a chance to be one of those guys. Hopefully someone like Brandon Smith or Cooper or Lockett can be the other.

On the plus side if he is on the side lines, he can yell as much at the refs as he wants and can’t punch any walls.
