BF contract amended

Barta just made the situation so much worse. He is so incompetent.
No kidding. Just when you things couldn’t get worse or we could become a bigger national laughing stock barta says hold my beer and gives Fredo this new contract.

I’d love to be in the bottom 5% and then bottom 1% the following year among my peers and get this type of deal.

Brian to Phil Parker, “Say Phil. I know I get credit for the points even if the defense scores but you mind telling your guys to take a dive on a potential pick six at about the five yard line??”

This is incredible.

All I’ll be thinking about every single score is how close Brian (and the defense) will be to averaging 25 points per game.

In all fairness, it would be difficult to totally separate offensive and defensive scores. For example, if the defense runs an interception back to the one yard line, is that an offensive or defensive TD? So that part almost has to be written that.

That said, the goals are not incentive worthy. 25 points would still be below average. And 7 wins would indicate the team is getting worse.

I like the contract language saying the agreement will end if he doesn’t meet these requirements. Doesn’t say he will be terminated at all if not met.

LoL. This is such a pathetic move by Barta and KF to defend the indefensible since Brian should have been fired after last season.

We have one of the easiest schedules in the B10. If they can’t muster 7 wins everyone should be fired.
I have little doubt about seven wins. I’m just saying 25 points will be much tougher. We actually scored more than 25 points seven times in 2021, including 51 against Maryland, and still didn’t average 25 points a game.

I was really shocked that this line was included. Usually 'goals' don't have a penalty if you miss it - just something to shoot for. I would have been laughing even more at this new contract without this line.

i agree. even the non conference is not setup to yield a massive point bonanza. if we hit 25 ppg AND maintain a top 15 D chances are we’ll be happy at the final record.

that said, on a weird note, when our teams (both under fry and ferentz) had highly ranked O and D (ie on same team) we ended with poor records.

I think BF might have a hard time hitting this. I would tend to think the defense is going to have a tough time matching the scores they had this past year. It’s still ridiculous.
It might also lend itself to KF actually allowing BF to call the offense he wants. After all would KF call off the dogs (like the Purdue game) if Iowa was averaging 23 points at that time. I’m not a BF fan but this might be the first time we see if BF is allowed to run the offense.

This could actually be interesting.

From a couple weeks ago....

"At the end of the day, I have the ability to override any decisions in the department,” Barta said. “I’ve sat down with Kirk and Brian, more than ever before, from the bowl until today. I’ve expressed my expectations moving forward.”

Lol what a joke

This simply shouldn’t be allowed. It’s an embarrassment not only to the University of Iowa, but now Iowa, specifically on the offensive side of the ball, can continue to be college football’s laughingstock.

Gee, I wonder if this helps or hurts recruiting. At least when Hayden left the cupboard bare it was for a legitimate reason. Kirk is going to burn down everything he built, all the good will, just to keep his idiot son employed. ****.

Interesting that it's been "just" the last 2 years when Iowa didn't score 25 ppg. And the Cooper mention is pretty damn funny.

And does anyone actually think BF will be terminated on June 30, 2024?

Might make Friday, Nov 24, 2023 vs. Nebraska a very interesting game.

Say Iowa has 6 wins and needs to score 39 points to get our OC to the goal of 25 points per game average.

Score with 4 minutes to go is 35-10 Iowa. Does our coaching staff go to no-huddle, hurry up offense to score another TD to meet the contract goals? Or instead of FG on 4th down, go for the TD to get to the 25 point average?

Could make for some weird scenarios and story lines.

the constant humiliation heaped on bf on this board will only serve to wake up a sleeping giant. mark my words— at this time next year BF will be hot commodity that iowa fans will be eager to lock into a long term contract. i would still urge caution. one national title is no guarantee for future success.

So can the ferentz d riders finally admit BF is coming back? Stop with the excuses and finally admit this entire OC debacle has been one cluster F after another

None of this makes any sense because the structure of that contract flies in the face of everything that KF has built this program on. To have an incentive on ppg does not complimentary or situational football. I have to say I kind of feel bad for BF at this point because I highly doubt he is going to be given the keys to the offense with no oversight from KF. Like some others have said, what happens in a cold, windy B1G game and we are up 14-0? Or that KF doesn't want to run up the score because we are up 21-3 and get the ball back with 7 minutes left? Hell if I am BF I am slinging it man.

I don't know what Barta and KF thought they were accomplishing. Even if BF came back as the OC with no pay it wouldn't appease the part of the fan base that hates him. So either he is the OC or he is not, the money is irrelevant.

2 out of first 3 games are vs Utah State and Western Michigan. Iowa is going to score 70 points on those 2 teams. Then big ten play, we will go back to around 15 points a game. Somehow end the year at 25.1 points a game

“Magic Number” is 300 points for 12 regular season games.

12 X 25 = 300.

Could make for fun weekly contests on this board.

Early off-the-wall predictions of Iowa scoring per game:

Western Michigan: 45. Running total: 45
Iowa State: 31. RT: 76
Utah State: 24. RT: 100
Purdue: 21. RT: 121
Wisconsin: 16. RT: 137
Rutgers: 19. RT: 156
NW: 34. RT: 190
Mich State: 17. RT: 207
Penn State: 10. RT: 217
Minnesota: 24. RT: 241
Illinois: 18. RT: 259

Nebraska: ??? Will need to score 41 vs Huskers to hit “Magic Number” of 300.

The Iowa Enablers. First, they pay Budmayr $95,000+ as a consultant because Brian doesn’t know how to coach QBs and isn’t good at coordinating offenses.

Next, he puts Kirk in situations where Kirk will have to potentially run up scores and potentially have to put the team in difficult situations. Does he play an injured Cade McNamara because he feels he can lead the offense to more scoring? This is such a cluster…will Kirk make decisions based on what’s best for the team or best for his son?

This is one of the worst decisions I’ve seen in sports. Barta should be fired this, completely incompetent.

The precedent has been set.

Son >>> program

Does it stipulate that the 25 ppg average is what's expected to come from the OFFENSE and that he doesn't get to count scoring by the D and ST towards that average?
This is a very valid point. 25 ppg attributable to what?

This goal seems too ambiguous.

The bar is now not really that high but I do like that there are some measurables Kirk and Brian have to meet. So many people say Brian is not accountable but we think, we think this makes him more accountable.

The drop in pay says his performance last year was viewed negatively but to me the drop in pay should have been more but maybe with more bonus options.

And if the defense and return teams score some points, or sets up some short fields then that is still a good thing.

And if Brian and maybe Budmyar have some ideas of some things they want to try I hope and think Kirk might let them now that there is pressure on.

Last week he said 8 wins wasn't the goal. And didn't Bart to say that later on in the same press confprince? Now the goal is 7 wins.
haha you got it, but maybe 7 wins this coming year and if the goals are met then maybe 27 pts a game and 8 wins are goals for 2024
