Bored waiting for Saturday and was watching the Iowa replay and noticed this.. Looks like Brian got into a little scrum on the sideline celebrating w the players. I have to say I love having him as one of our coaches. I've known Brian for a long time and while he is mostly business, he loves to have fun too and tends to show a lot of emotion, quite different from his Dad.

Really looking forward to the next few years to see what he can do!

It was a pretty funny sequence. Chest bumped each olineman after Daniels TD run as they were running off the field. Boettger put him on his ass. BF got up and continued on with the rest. Some of the defensive players got off the bench and gave BF a fist bump afterward while some of the coaches were giving him shit for falling on his ass in front of 70k

I love seeing great coaches get hyped up occasionally with their players, really adds to the team's energy sometime, and it makes me happy to see BF out their enjoying himself with his players. That being said I have no issue with Kirk's even-keeled approach to coaching either. I think they both have their place, and Kirk's approach makes it so that when he DOES show some emotion, it carries much more weight and people definitely are going to pay attention. The only thing I dislike is when a coach makes a hyped up fool of himself constantly and that is literally the one thing that defines him as a coach (e.g. CPR).

PS: I am in no way saying that I think BF is on his way to defining himself as a "cheerleader coach", I just felt like adding to this topic a bit. BF is a great coach and he is definitely known as a great coach well before being known as a cheerleader.

I would definitely agree. I think it's perfect to have a coach like KF to help players keep their focus, but even better to have another coach like BF as well that gives energy. A perfect combination

I think it would be a big mistake on Iowa's part to let BF walk after KF is done. Think he is too good of a HC prospect
He probably needs to go take a head coach job at Mac program right now though so he gets that experience. I'd hate to lose him but if he wants to be the head coach at Iowa he really needs to run his own show even if for only a couple years

As the HC I think it is best to keep a cool head like KF does. If he needs to get on the officials, he will but he's not over the top about it. Leave the cheerleading up to the assistants. We don't need a 61 year old out there doing chest bumps. BF celebrating with his OL is great. I love the interactions of the staff with each other and the team. I think it goes a long way to the recent success we've experienced.

Normally I would agree that he would need some seasoning but with his pedigree, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. There is no guarantee that when he wants to come back to Iowa we have a spot for him. Coaching hires are all about timing.

I'll agree it is awesome to see the emotion from him. Last week vs. ISU after a timeout was called he was walking out to meet the players coming off the field and was giving out some energetic high fives that had some power behind them! Nice to see from the staff.

Iowa's future head coach. If he inherited any of KF's work ethic, and morals, he would be an outstanding replacement after Kirk hangs it up...I really believe he keep stability in the program with a few added wrinkles; just the kind of coach we need going forward

Brian is a nice guy, but he's one of the worst recruiters we have. For some reason, virtually all of the other assistants get a lot more commits than Brian. Maybe dad told him he doesn't have to be out on the road recruiting like the rest of the staff, or maybe he just doesn't have enough experience yet. But when you look at who the head recruiter is for each of our recruits, it's pretty rare to see Brian's name, and much more common to see Kennedy, LeVar Woods, or Reece Morgan connecting with kids and convincing them to come to Iowa. A head coach needs to be more than enthusiastic on the sidelines and the son of a good head coach. He has to first and foremost be a star recruiter. He also has to be a great x's and o's guy. Brian will get his chance one day, but he's definitely not ready for prime time.

At worst I think he needs to be a coordinator before being a head coach if he doesn't go take a mid-major head coaching job somewhere.

So that brings us to Greg Davis and how many more years he has

Think he probably needs a coordinator position first. All in due time. Wonder when Davis is thinking of retiring.
