Biden backers 'not seeing the results' a year into his term

Just over a year ago, millions of energized young people, women, voters of color and independents joined forces to send Joe Biden to the White House. But 12 months into his presidency, many describe a coalition in crisis.

For now, virtually none of the groups that fueled Biden's 2020 victory are happy.

Leading voices across Biden's diverse political base openly decry the slow pace of progress on key campaign promises. The frustration was especially pronounced this past week after Biden's push for voting rights legislation effectively stalled, intensifying concerns in his party that fundamental democratic principles are at risk and reinforcing a broader sense that the president is faltering at a moment of historic consequence.

“People are feeling like they’re getting less than they bargained for when they put Biden in office. There’s a lot of emotions, and none of them are good," said Quentin Wathum-Ocama, president of the Young Democrats of America. “I don’t know if the right word is ‘apoplectic’ or ‘demoralized.’ We’re down. We’re not seeing the results.”

The strength of Biden's support will determine whether Democrats maintain threadbare majorities in Congress beyond this year or whether they will cede lawmaking authority to a Republican Party largely controlled by former President Donald Trump. Already, Republicans in several state legislatures have taken advantage of Democratic divisions in Washington to enact far-reaching changes to state election laws, abortion rights and public health measures in line with Trump's wishes.

"We mobilized to elect President Biden because he made promises to us,” Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., told The Associated Press, citing Biden’s pledge to address police violence, student loan debt, climate change and voter suppression, among other issues.

“Biden is failing us," said John Paul Mejia, the 19-year-old spokesman for the Sunrise Movement, a national youth organization focused on climate change. “If Biden doesn’t use the time he has left with a Democratic majority in Congress to fight tooth and nail for the promises that he was elected on, he will go down in history as a could-have-been president and ultimately a coward who didn’t stand up for democracy and a habitable planet.”

I’m seeing the result I voted for.

Their wrath is directed at the wrong source. Two Dem senators, Manchin and Sinema, are responsible for blocking key parts of Biden's agenda. Needing all 50 Dem senators to pass any of his legislation, which includes allowing filibuster carve outs, Biden's hands are tied. Manchin has been especially egregious coming from a state that represents only 3% of the country's population. Dems need a larger majority (just 52 in fact) so they can tell pols like Manchin and Sinema to go pound sand.

Dems will lose seats in the Senate and the House so Biden and his snowflakes are screwed. America wins!

They got what they paid for. Biden is still not Donald Trump and that was the only thing they cared about. They didn't mind electing a senile old racist as long as he didn't Tweet dumb things. They didn't care what damage he did to their party in the Midterms as long as he served the right food to college kids when they visit the White House.

Sad but very true and now they have to live with it for 3 more years.

You make 'they' sound very bad. You sure you are not TOTALLY making some of that up?

He represents 3% of the population and only gets 2% of the total number of votes in the Senate.

How exactly is that a problem? Isn't industry (coal mining, etc.?) being hounded out of the state. Someday, the balance between votes and voters in the state may even out.

The dems will get crushed in the midterms because Biden and many in the senate abandoned all of the campaign trail grand plans they were going to accomplish if the voters just give them control of the senate.

turns out corporate dems are just as big corporate stooges as the GOP

In 2016, a majority of people voted AGAINST Hillary Clinton
rather than for Donald Trump

In 2020, a majority of people voted AGAINST Donald Trump
rather than for Joe Biden

As Americans we all lost something in 2016 & 2020. We lost
an opportunity to have Presidential candidates who were
young, intelligent, and dynamic leaders..

Biden actually got the infrastructure bill passed. trump never even made the effort to create an infrastructure plan.
Or how about Trump's "revolutionary" health care plan to replace Obamacare that he promised to produce in July of 2020? Like everything else, he lied through his teeth, he never had a plan. Almost as bad as his "Mexico will pay for the wall" bs and his idiotic pullout from the Iran nuke deal. Of course nothing could top his mind-boggling attempt to overturn the 2020 election with his ill-fated political coup on January 6th. How dumb can you get! And what a loser - losing the popular vote in 2016 and 2020 by a combined 12.5 million votes!

You live in some alternate universe because what you cited above is all garbage lies.

Lies - not at all. (1) What was Trump's promised health care plan to replace Obamacare and when did he announce it? Never had a plan to announce. (2) When did Trump specifically receive funds from the Mexican government to pay for his wall? Sorry, it never happened. (3) Trump's pull out of the Iran nuke deal was indeed a disaster. He had no plan "B" to replace it and Iran is closer today to producing a nuke than they were four years ago. (4) Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary by 5 mil and to Biden by 7.5 mil votes - indisputable, look it up. (5) Finally, Trump indeed failed in his attempt to overturn the election on January 6th as Pence refused to play his stooge and the free and fair election as certified by the states was also certified by the US Congress. His political coup attempt failed miserably.

1. The Affordable Care Act was a trash piece of legislation and by no means was it affordable, thankfully Donald got rid of certain aspects of it such as the fines American taxpayers had to pay by not taking mandated insurance at unbelievably high costs. 2. The Wall was never finished why would Mexico pay for something not completed? The process involved in getting money from Mexico was not fully played out and due to Sleepy Joe it never will. 3. The Iran deal was terrible and we needed to bail on it, only a fool would think Iran and the crazies that run that insane asylum could ever be trusted. 4. The 2020 election was far from being fair. 5. There was no attempted coup or anything close to it.

When I was a kid I learned you don’t get everything you want. Too many constituencies in the Democratic Party have unrealistic expectations about what can actually be accomplished.
Yeah lot of that going around. As we said in the old days, "Pie in the sky."

Yeah that inbred redneck right wing piece of shit Manchin should be taken out and shot. Same with Sinema although not so clearly inbred.

The country was in the best place it's ever been in summer of 2019. It was all dismantled in less than one year. Those are irrefutable facts.

You could even feel it if you worked. Probably wasn't the best for freeloaders, completely understand that.
Thanks, Obama. And Trump was a big part of ruining it. The economy was waining by the end of 2019, and then his pathetic and incompetent response (complete with dismantling the pandemic response team because the black President that made fun of him) made 2020 an even worse disaster. This isn’t mentioning the multiple corrupt felons Trump had hired.
