Just saw where they will offer football tickets at lower prices to students based on need (based on Pell Grant info). Lower prices for less fortunate students. By No means am I saying this is a bad idea. Just find it interesting that even Big Blue with their new Savior coach would still have to come up with NEW ways to get the students fannies in the seats. Apparently the " buy a liter of Coke and get a ticket offer"
is off the table this year

So whats your opinion of Iowa offering a $70 concession stand voucher for buying a season ticket?

While all of college football, and other sports as well, are having difficulty putting butts in seats lately, it is a much bigger issue at places where expectations are not being met. MI is a great example of this. They have been mediocre to bad the last few years, so they have tried/are trying various things to get people to come out and support the team. They offered promotions and (gasp) hired a new coach.
What has IA done? While our expectations are not (and should not) be the same as Michigan's, they are still not being met. We have had a similar mediocre-to-bad spell, and the university has done little to nothing to try to right the ship.
Also, somehow trying to associate this with their new coach, who has yet to coach a game, is weak as hell. Will be interesting to see what ticket sales, and the products on the field, are like for IA and MI over the next 2 seasons.

Pffffff.... You must have missed that awesome post-season depth chart press conference that they held after getting throttled in their bowl game. Kirk even decided to rededicate himself to watching more game film instead of spending his time fund raising with Gary.

Was yawning a lot. Must have missed that part.

I might add that Michigan with it's long football tradition has been hiring new coaches quite frequently. Be careful what you ask for. What I'm trying to say is even with the ability to recruit four and five star athletes Michigan hasn't been able to finish as well as Iowa the last 14 years.

I would argue with the last 14 years assessment, but I hear what you are saying. Clearly they have had issues and are not the big name they have been historically. They have made some bad hires, trying to catch the next up and comer. Their firing of Carr looks to be somewhat similar to our firing of Davis. But that does not mean we need to stick with our current situation. Maybe have the stones to evaluate the program and realize that is has not done anything close to what you want it to, and what you are paying for, over the last 4 years. Look to the cupboards to see that there is not a ton of hope that things are going to turn around (kind of like TN looks right now). When you do decide to pull the trigger on the coach, maybe look at someone more seasoned instead of trying to get the flavor of the month.
Until this past season (really the ISU game this season), I was firmly in the KF camp. After that loss, especially coming on the heels of the BSU game, I was out of it. It is time for a change, and I think IA stands to lose more money by keeping him than paying out his contract.
