Big Ol’ Storm Front Moving In....

Rained so hard the gutters were overwhelmed on the lake house. Even went up to check for clogs and it was totally clear.

A much needed soaker. Can shut off the irrigation system for a while.

I got woke up by a storm overnight. Pouring down with a bit of thunder/lightning now.

And petering out again before it gets to the Corridor!

We seem to get the ferocious bow echo derecho types, but not the hours long soakers any more.

This system dumped huge amounts of rain out in NW IA, SE SD, NW NE etc - and also carpet bombed along and south of US34.

Eastern Iowa though? The corridor? Nada (so far). I am hopeful though, it does seem to be firing off some lines of rain currently. But something tells me the 2023 corridor weather bubble will somehow figure out a way to keep it around a tenth or two total.

Isn’t it supposed to be later on today?

Not a drop in NE Iowa and we need it terribly.

According to the future cast on my tablet (weather channel) Eastern and NE Iowa supposed to get some heavy rain mid afternoon.

Isn’t it supposed to be later on today?

The NWS narrative from this morning warned that the heavier totals might drift more south to hit the areas that got drenched I think it was Friday. I think we'll get "some" rain, but given we seem to miss out on those this year I suspect it'll either be a good soaker (hopefully an inch +) - or the main cells will miss us entirely and we'll get a tenth or two (which has been happening all too often this year)..

I'm in Guttenberg currently. It is DRY around these parts. I drove up from CR yesterday afternoon and while I'm no farmer, the fields didn't look to be in all that good of shape the farther NE I went.

I couldn't help but notice the LaCrosse NWS narrative this morning seemed to think the area wasn't going to get much at all. The good thing is next week's supposed to be fairly active with systems moving through regularly. Also supposed to be comparatively mild most of the week also.

Who knows though, maybe we'll get lucky today. It certainly looks like it might rain, but so far it looks like every wave of rain poops out right before it gets here.

Hey, I think I just had 138 on my cabin rooftop! It's a downpour! But seriously, any precip is good at this point. We just can't keep running 50% or worse deficits every damn month.

Just perusing the radar, it looks like that low that was in SDish yesterday - it was forecast then to move easterly up to roughly the IA/MN border area today. It kinda looks like it is indeed jogging more SSE today. Please, don't go much further south.

What would be great is if it can pinwheel a wave or two or three of rain over eastern Iowa just like it is over the Ames area right now. 2-3 of those between say the IA-MN border to I80 corridor would be awesome.

But again, I have my doubts...PROVE ME WRONG MOTHER NATURE (you bitch)!

Sioux County (Sioux Center) had up to 10 inches yesterday. Check out the comments for some pictures.
Looks like maybe FB link doesn’t work?

So Eagle....whose sinning so much in Sioux County that God has decided to flood all y’all out? Someone not going to both church services? Someone doing business on the Sabbath? Someone not tithing?
Do you have an arc in the backyard for such emergencies?

Jebus...so damn frustrating watching every spoke of rain either lift up before it hits 380 or evaporate if it does get there.

CR has gotten a big ol' .01" so far, and aside from my aforementioned 138 drops nothing measurable here in Guttenberg.

Each line just disappears off of radar.

It’s ark 🛥️ not arc 🌈 . And I am in Cedar Rapids where we get no rain because I am so pious, but I have family up there. My guess it is the illegals. 🙄

Sioux Center was the driest town in Iowa last year with about 10 inches for the whole year!
Here in Poky county we finally got our 1st rain in over 3 weeks. 1.8 inches...finally. Should keep crops going but need more thru August to have a good bean crop.

it rained here. I'm in CR

A whopping .05" so far. Meanwhile per the radar it appears you go below I80 and things are kicking into high gear in SE Iowa.

Here in Guttenberg, nothing more than sprinkles about once an hour. Every line approaches and dies right as it gets here. About the only good occurring is the cloud cover has kept temps down into the low-mid 70's all day.

They're still sticking to their 3/4-1" night forecast for CR. The low is supposed to ramp up the moisture output as the evening goes and as it moves east.

Again, I have my doubts about the corridor getting anything more than a couple tenths tops. But who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and my CR yard will be just a tad bit greener when I return Tuesday.

Things seem to be picking up a little now. If they can break through the bubble, there is still hope!

Yep. Looks like CR/IC might actually get some decent totals hopefully, but you can see the effects of how dry it is north and NE of CR. I've read that when systems that are producing rains move over relatively moist soils, they hold together - but if they hit a dry spot on the map that dryness can shut it down unless there's overwhelming moisture in the system itself.

The radar is kinda showing that today. It hits the driest parts of eastern/NE Iowa and fizzles out.

It'd be real nice if one more line like the one approaching the corridor would form after it and make it's way over us before the low passes through. Or at the vey least continue to be turtle slow in passing, and expend everything it's going to have over us.

It was just so depressing to see the views as I drove up here yesterday. It was green, but not that deep lush green that it usually is. A lot of pale green and yellow to the colors in just about everything. Almost like an early fall look to it, but a month too early.

Finally raining in Iowa City.

Yep, that heavy band juuuuuuust made its way to I80 level.

But, sigh...it ain't gonna get to CR. And that whole cell appears to be waning a bit once you look above I80.

I'm beginning to believe this just ain't our year. There's some sort of weather voodoo going on this year, and it's sticking the no rain pins in the two places I spent most all my time at.

CR airport STILL is not showing anything measurable over the .05 total at 4pm, and they've had radar signatures over it for 5 friggin' straight hours!

Whatever the radar is showing as coming down must not be hitting the ground.

Like I said this morning...they may be forecasting upwards to an inch, but they're gonna get a thimble full when it's all said and done.

It ain't funny, Mother Nature. Quit being a stingy bitch.

The first storm around noon danced around IC. The second wave was supposed to produce 1-2 inches, and we got just enough to knock the dust down a little.

In CR and we had at least .75 inches
