Big Ten Brackets- OUT

My first reaction is any slim chance to beat PSU just got slimmer (no not by a ton but still) with having 1 less first round match hurts. Not to mention one of Iowa 6 first round matches is against a #1 seed. I'm still liking Brody's chances to make it though. Rhoads will have to win 3 matches it looks like and I dont see that happening. Nevillis looks like he has a decent shot at 285 for PSU if he is anywhere near 100%.

Brody's first round match-up hurts... can he string a few together to qualify?

Agree with Sandor45 and Johnbeerpong... the byes actually hurt us.

Guilbon gets a 1st round bye! than meets M Jordan the guy that he kept it the closest with this past month.
Bracket very much favoring PSU.

Seriously? Why do all of our higher seeded wrestlers get first round byes except for Stoll?

there are 6 possible matchups of IA vs OSU in the 1Round/QF....

guess we will get to dual them...all in the QF...

Honestly looking through the 141 bracket, we could potentially have a Grothus vs Gulibon 7th place match if you look at how the matches fall. There are only 7 slots allocated to this weight class correct? Could be a good opportunity to knock Gulibon out of the tournament.

Rhoads will likely have to beat Welch of Purdue to get into the 5th place match, but IMO I think he's at least a lock for 7th place match.

Rhoads will need 6th to make it. Going to be tough.
I believe Paddock was the one who faced Welch in the dual. Hopefully Rhoads wrestles like he has nothing to lose, and goes out with confidence, then he can qualify. But I agree, its going to be very tough.

With our luck, if JG doesn't finish in the top 7, he'll probably get an at large bid with a decent seed at nationals.......

With Thielke from Wisconsin getting an at large bid last year with a below .500 record, nothing would surprise me anymore.

Why don't they just give the top 2 guys byes? Really dumb to do it this way.

I mean they need to just get 2 more teams in the Big Ten

I am surprised by the reactions. Other than Gilman and Brooks with byes, I like the draws.

I agree. Brody will have a pretty good chance at qualifying even if he loses his first round against Jordan. If he does lose, he'll face Sabatello on the backside where the winner will at least wrestle for 8th...winner qualifies. If he can beat a Bannister/Abidin then he moves on and qualifies also.

Like Sam Stoll's draw. Very reasonable to think he wins two to reach Semis then potentially default out to finish in top six. With the exception of Brody pretty manageable draws.

If Grothus losses to Jordan he doesn't have a terrible road to the Consi -Semis and 6th place min.

By seeds he would have Sabatello and then Abidin. He beat Sabatello this year and Abidin is very beatable.

Both of these matches would be in the evening session giving him more recovery time too.

I could see Stoll winning 2 to make the semi's, forfeiting the semi's, then continuing as far as he can go in the wrestlebacks. I don't think Snyder is a smart match to wrestle, he's a lot like Gwiaz, athletics, shoots a lot, situations that will put a lot of pressure and strain on Stolls bad knee.

If only Clark could have made his way Into Richards league during the duel, his path would have been much smoother. I guess Conaway will have be the springboard to potentially vault him into the "League of Extraordinary Zane Richards". Potentially.

My thoughts (including bonus pt potential):

Gilman with a bye and losing bonus pts hurts in first match. We get a bonus pts in qtrs but that is it as he has tough matches and likely decisions from there. He still seems like he is on a mission this year. - 1st

Clark - I think he has a tough road and will likely not get any bonus but could win the whole thing - 1st

Grothus - Will lose first match to jordan, gets a bye and then i think will PIN Sabotelllo before having to face abudin. I think he is in the 5th / 6th place match - 6th

Sorensen - Not much bonus possibilities. Think he gets a couple of decisions after his bye and ends up 2nd

Cooper - Like his draw, gets a PIN to start, then loses to Nolf, follows that up with a Major and two decisions to get to 3rd place match but loses - 4th

Rhoades - Should win first but will lose second match, then can get a dec and loss (7th place match). Will need to upset Welch to get into 5th place match - 7th

Meyer - Bye, Major, Dec and then loses in final - 2nd

Brooks- TF, Dec, Dec and then loses in final - 2nd

Brooks- Maj, Dec, Dec (over Pfarr) and then loses in final - 2nd

Stoll - Dec and then I think he MFFs out. Dont think with a legit opponent in Jensen they want to risk it. He will get wildcard

9 Qualifiers, 2nd or 3rd place in Big Tens. Not sure what the pts would be as I am not sure how they handle byes with advancement, etc.

Our 3 best wrestlers getting first round byes is interesting. Some of our other guys did get fish that they should be able to bonus

Hope Stoll can go. He would likely get a pin in the first match then a win over Jensen who is also banged up. Then MFF out.

I agree with most on here that this is most likely how it will go down for Sam this weekend. Unfortunately for the Hawks as a team in the Big Ten tournament, it might end the chances for a title right there because to win this thing they certainly need better than a sixth place finish out of Stoll.

Ryan is 2nd round, then Nolf is next.

I am not really sure what is so hard to understand. Tom on your board made it WAY more complicated than it is and bitches about McC getting a bye when he is a guy you probably want getting as few matches as possible.

133 seeded out to 14. So we got screwed there. Other than that they randomly draw and we pretty much got hosed as far as this bye thing goes. Why wouldn't they just give the top 2 seeded wrestlers byes across the board? That is really the only fair way to do this. It would also not make for huge mismatches the first round for the most part. It would minimize the chances of having a lopsided first round allocation like they have here that is very likely to decide who the big ten champ is.
