Looks like the only teams we have to worry about are: Purdon't, Indiana, & Sparty. Maybe the B1G isn't going to be as good as we thought.

Sounds like the week 2 overreaction of last year. Wisconsin will get better, but I agree Michigan is incredibly overrated as a 1 man team. Ohio State was as well, and we were overlooked, but we'll see how the season plays out.

First thank you Alum-NI for doing this every year. Much appreciated by me. In fact, Rivals scores and data on the tab above for some reason is not tracking things like it has in years past and I do not like that. If you want to break out just Big 10 scores nothing has been coming up?? So this thread is big for me.

Second, it is early and teams do get better including Iowa in this but it is what it is now with Marquette getting a big win over #22 LSU with arguably I am reading the #1 player in the country in Ben Simmons and we beat this same MU team by 28 points....uh, hello? And then a highly ranked IU team loses to Wake Forest in the Maui Classic and I am also reading where this Wake team is ranked anywhere from 12-13 out of 15 teams in the ACC conference....hmmmm??

Very interesting what I am seeing anyway here early on.....very.

Illinois could be pesky. They looked pretty decent against ISU last night. Don't be misled by those early losses; they were missing several key player due to injury.

The kid that got injured in that game will now be out for quite some time. Crazy bad luck for that team with injuries.

Some of these teams being dismissed have a bunch of young talent that will be playing better as league play gets here. It takes a while for teams to jell.

I certainly wouldn't be dismissing teams like Wisconsin, OSU or Illinois. The bummer is that Those are always very very tough games and if they wind up with double digit losses it will be a bummer not to get any credit for beating them. I'm just happy we are still on schedule and knowing the trip to Ames is house money if we take care of business business against the three remaining mid majors. Somehow I just now caught that we only have 12 non conference games this year. Still, 19 wins should get us in because our RPI is going to be very very good. 6 of the non con teams are a virtual slam dunk to end up in the top 100 and, very likely at minimum be bubble teams.

Looks to me that there are three tiers of teams, with MSU, Purdue and Maryland fighting it out for 1st. The battle for 4 though 7 is going to be the interesting part. I feel like Iowa has an edge, but we could easily finish anywhere from 4th to 7th.

Standings

Michigan State (11-0)
Purdue (11-0)
Maryland (9-1)
--------------------------------
Northwestern (9-1)
Indiana (8-3)
Michigan (8-3)
Iowa (7-3)
--------------------------------
Penn State (7-3)
Nebraska (7-4)
Wisconsin (7-5)
Illinois (6-5)
Minnesota (6-5)
Ohio State (5-5)
Rutgers (4-6)

If you haven't seen NW and PSU play, they are both vastly improved. NW talent is going to be scary with another good class. I read or heard that PSU has a top 15 recruiting class next year?

It is a little to early to put OSU and Wisconsin in a bottom tier. PSU is probably a year away and Illannoy is dealing with a lot of injuries. I agree that MSU, Mary Land, and Purdon't seem like the favorites. After that, there are 6 or 7 teams that could finish 4-10, depending on schedules, luck, injuries, etc. I think the Hawks should finish in the top half of the league, and look as good as anyone after the top 3 so far. Should be fun to watch.

Northwestern appears to be a huge question mark. Yes, they're 12-1 but they haven't played anyone good except North Carolina. They're need to place well in the B1G and beat some of the good teams to actually make the tourney because their strength of schedule has to be crap.

NW will be without Olah for a few games with a foot injury. That could hurt their chances a lot. You are right, they will probably need at least 10 B1G wins to make it to the dance.

NW better win their next three if they want any chance of making the dance...the four after that are all gonna be stomps, then they have a .500 schedule left (at best) the rest of the way. They also need to knock off a ranked team to build a better resume. I'll predict now that their streak of not making the dance continues until next year.

So it's looking like the B1G will have 6 solid teams in the tournament with Ohio St., Wisconsin, and Nebraska fighting it out as a possible seventh team. Those three teams have a lot of work to do. I'm excluding Northwestern because they won't have the quality wins the committee is looking for.

Ohio State has the best shot of the three. Nebraska really, really, really has a lot of work to do. If the Huskers can get in the NIT this year, that'd be great IMO.
