First time headed to Ann Arbor....any recommendations on bars/food for Friday night and in between sessions!? Thanks for the input!
If you like marijuana, Ann Arbor is the place for you! Hell, they were acting like it was legal there 20 years before it actually became so(it is legal now in MI).....First time headed to Ann Arbor....any recommendations on bars/food for Friday night and in between sessions!? Thanks for the input!
Being partial to green and white I don’t frequent that area for any sort of evening sporting event, lol. But, I would think most of the bars/pubs closest to campus would if asked…Do you know of any places that would show the UFC matches?
Seriously? And we took skiing Friday off the table to help defray costs for NCAAs and because snow has been scarce in that area this Winter. Ugh!When is everyone driving up? Forecast says 4 inches snow in Ann Arbor on Friday
Any other spots hawks fans are planning on hitting up? We are getting close! Just hope the snow doesn't make Friday's drive miserable....
Forecasts are starting to tweak the temperature up a bit, so it looks like a majority of it will now be rain instead of snow. We exclusively use salt so I wouldn't expect the main roads to be much of a hindrance if the temp holds in the mid 30's as currently expected...Any other spots hawks fans are planning on hitting up? Joe's Pizza(NYC) is what you want pizza wise, but I don't think it is the length of walk you are looking for. The walk is about a mile and half as the crow flies. Really, just straight up pizza places aren't the best walk. Pizza Bob's is probably the closest(Domino's and Cottage Inn are maybe a bit closer, but cardboard pizza places) at maybe a couple of blocks or so closer.Where is the best pizza, preferably New York style, thin and greasy, within walking distance of the arena, or at least a short enough drive to hit between sessions? I'd prefer not to pay to park multiple times a day, if they're charging.
Thanks, Depending on how much time (and maybe weather) a couple miles won't kill me. I'm 64, but not crippled. My knees are only 2+ and 5+ years old. I'll keep Joe's in mind. In fact, I think that's where we ate once the last time in Ann Arbor. We went by car that time though, with my mom along.Joe's Pizza(NYC) is what you want pizza wise, but I don't think it is the length of walk you are looking for. Although, to be fair, that particular Cottage Inn is the "original" and is more of an authentic restaurant. I just never cared for their pizza...
The walk would be basically straight through campus, so that at least wouldn't be bad. Just weather and time of day looks to be the key. Both days, the lows are in the mid to upper 20's, so wind would be the factor to making that walk suck or not suck...Thanks, Depending on how much time (and maybe weather) a couple miles won't kill me. Safe travels to all.Looking like a nice trip out tomorrow weather-wise…..
Local weather reports are calling for temps in the mid to upper 30's, high of 38 and precipitation not starting until the afternoon. The last 3 projected "winter storms" in our area ended up being mostly rain, which turned to sleet/ice in the late evening hours. Everything I see so far, projects almost the exact same. The weather forecast I saw from the weather channel says:
Fri 03
36°/30°
Heavy Snow/Wind
100%
ENE 20 mph
Fri 03 | Day
36°
100%
ENE 20 mph
"Watching a potential winter storm. Snow. Snow will become heavy at times during the afternoon as the wind picks up. High 36F. Winds ENE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 100%. Snow accumulating 8 to 12 inches."
With 3-5 inches on Friday night. Drive carefully!
I wouldn't recommend the walk, which is why I didn't list it, but you are right, if you like a good deli sandwich they are really good.Zingermans deli is a good sandwich place. It’s pricy and will be crowded, but the food is good.
Agreed, it’s a short drive.I wouldn't recommend the walk, which is why I didn't list it, but you are right, if you like a good deli sandwich they are really good.
There is a Buddy's Pizza out on Ann Arbor Saline Road. Not downtown. They have very good Detroit style pizza if you want to try that. But I agree Joe's is the best New York style.Joe's Pizza(NYC) is what you want pizza wise, but I don't think it is the length of walk you are looking for. Buddy's is the LITERAL opposite of NYC pizza style. Now, what it is, is the epitome of Detroit Style! Deep dish, 4 corners on a 4 piece and 8 on an 8 piece. Granted, I am partial to Loui's(best deep dish pizza in MI) in Hazel Park(roughly 50 minutes away from Ann Arbor, just north of the northeast side of Detroit). There is a Buddy's Pizza out on Ann Arbor Saline Road. It's also worth pointing out that Detroit style deep dish is completely different from Chicago style deep dish.Buddy's is the LITERAL opposite of NYC pizza style. If you like deep dish Buddy's is your place if you want to stay close. If you have the time and don't mind a bit of travel, to me, Loui's is TRANSCENDENT!
IMO there are kinda 2 downtown concentrations of restaurants in Ann Arbor. There is main street and state street. You can walk directly down main street from the Big House it is about a mile walk.If you like marijuana, Ann Arbor is the place for you! Hell, they were acting like it was legal there 20 years before it actually became so(it is legal now in MI).....
Blimpy and Casey's are two very good burger joints really close. I can't guarantee they won't be ridiculously hard to get into....
Casey's is also a pretty cool bar if you can stand crazy Wolverine fans The Last Word is pretty cool, for a more upscale food and drink feel, but it is pretty small and not sure if you could get in there either.
With that said a BUNCH of places are off Main St. just south of Huron, which are all about a bit less than a mile north of Crisler. If you don't want to go that way you could try Fraser's. Its about the same distance but to the east. Biercamp(If you like micro-breweries and sausage this is probably your spot) is probably the closet and you can get a good look at the golf course if you go that way!
Edited to add: Also, in MI, especially college towns, UBER is your best friend. I am not sure the wait won't be a bit more with the Tournament going on, but I would still think they can get you where you want and back a lot easier and the price is very reasonable!
I live in Toledo and it’s snowing up here. Right on that line. Laxhawk and I heading up in the morning.Just rolled into my brothers in Perrysburg Ohio. Catching some district wrestling tonight, then up to Ann Arbor in the morning. Weather was sketchy for a bit through Indiana, but just rain now.
Yeah, sorry. The temp held it off til the sun started to go down. Once that happened the temp dropped fast enough for the roads to get bad pretty fast. Definitely not worth driving the extra couple hours(probably more with the weather) to come this way tonight.Drive here sucked! I wish we would have kept skiing on the agenda and left home three or four hours earlier. Lady two cars in front of me slid back and forth from the edge of median to the shoulder. People going too fast, people going way too slow. Frozen slush, ice and 50 ft visibility. Just all-around fun.
On a good note, Joe's pizza is pretty good, but they don't have pineapple or ham. Decided not to drive to suburbs of Detroit to meet a friend for supper after the drive here, so we got pizza tonight instead of between sessions tomorrow.
I agree! Took us an extra hour and 1/2. People driving between 20-60mph. Went with cottage inn for pizza. Kids loved it. Hopefully the parking lot is cleared in the morning. More snow here in one night than Iowa has had all winter.Drive here sucked! I wish we would have kept skiing on the agenda and left home three or four hours earlier. Yeah, sorry. I watched the local weather reports nonstop. The key was for everyone to get into the area by 5:00 or so. After that, I am sure the drive sucked. The temp dropped pretty quick from 3:00 to 5:00 and the snow turned into The Hulk at that point.I agree! Took us an extra hour and 1/2. People driving between 20-60mph. Agreed! We hit that between sessions. My two young boys destroyed an 8 slicer.Thank you for the tip on Buddy's really hit the spot
The drive sucked from 1:00 on. It was pouring and low visibility from just west of Chicago on. It was 31 degrees or less from there on.Yeah, sorry. I watched the local weather reports nonstop. Hope everyone made it in safe and it warms up fast enough today to make your travel to and from Crisler as easy as possible. Have fun!
