At the age of 23, Abraham Lincoln enlisted in the Illinois
militia in April, 1832. He was voted Captain and served
for 80 days. Lincoln was paid $110 plus sign up bonus $14.

On May 9, his company was sworn into Federal service
near Rock River. The 67 year old Chief Black Hawk had
crossed the MIssissippi River and returned to his former
village in Rock Island, Illinois with 368 warriors.

Lincoln and his men along with federal troops chased
Black Hawk's warriors up to Ottawa, Illinois and eventually
he was captured and the war was over.

The history of the Quad Cities is extremely interesting.
Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island is a must see
tourist destination. The museum and exhibits make
history come alive.

Robert E Lee was the surveyor for the first bridge to cross the Mississippi in Davenport. That bridge burned after the Effie Afton ran into it, for which Abraham Lincoln provided legal counsel.

Edit: Cedar Rapids sucks
