Bo Pelini...

He won 9 games a year for them. But, they fired him because he was controversial. Too funny. Meanwhile, Tom Osborne kept criminals on as starters. No controversy there. The bottom line is they fired Pelini because they thought they were still an elite program and that they could win more with somebody else. Same reason they fired Solich. And each time it has bitten them in the ass. Nebby is reaping what they sowed. And it’s bloody fun to watch.

They'll defend OSborne as a man of integrity and get defensive about it too. Them defending Osborne and Frost make the SCOTUS hearings look like a picnic.

Some of the greats of Nebraska lore tend to get over-looked and are under-appreciated.
Coach Bo Pelini and his brother Carl are definitely two legends that definitely fail to get the props and respect they deserve! Even with lesser known Huskers like Tommie Frazier graciously supporting and endorsing Coach Pelini it still wasn't enough to keep him in Lincoln.

Other former Husker staff who made great contributions and did things the "Nebraska" way were former NFL head coach Bill Callahan along with former A.D. Steve Pederson. Together they laid the groundwork that would continue the success for future greats like Shawn Eichorst and the gone to soon Mike Riley. We can also throw a shout out to former line coach Rick Kaczenski. Husker nation tends to forget about and omit some of these great contributors from their storied past!

Frank Solich got fired after going 58-19 over a six-year span, including a national title game appearance, 3 Top 10 finishes, and 3 Big 12 North championships. His primary mistake was following Tom Osborne. I'd say he has the edge on Pelini.

Yes, following Tom Osborne was going to be a mess for anyone who followed, but if you knew much about NU football under Frank, it declined rather rapidly. He was handed a team loaded with talent, but didn't continue to maintain that talent. Him getting fired is a good debate, but between him losing talent, and the shit show his coaches were, it was warranted. The hires after have been suspect all around, and hence the downfall.

Nebraska could very well be Minnesota now, but I am willing to wait for a few more years.

Yeah, some big P5 program is bound to snap him up any season now. It’s just that all of the schools are so happy with their top coaches, there hasn’t been enough churn.

Osborne was hired in 1973, 45 years ago. Pellini was the best hire in 45 years; in other words, since the Osborne hire.
LOL so we're going back to the hiring of Osborne, but Osborne's hiring isn't part of the last 45 years. It all makes sense now!

I thought his coming out with the cat was hilarious.

I became a Pelini fan when he did that. His freakouts that disgusted and mystified me before the “cat walk” became colorful and in good humor to me afterwards. More power to you, Bo. Scratch somebody’s eyes out! Me-fecking-yow.

It's been said that Pelini is somewhat a victim of his own face. Lots of coaches can get away with sideline rants etc, but he just looks ....well... unattractive. Not a bad coach, but he gets a bad rap because of how he looks.

He practically asked to be canned late in his tenure, but letting a guy go with a 71% winning record was a big mistake. (says Captain Obvious)

Why does Tom Osborne get so much credit for being a great coach? He took over after Devaney who actually built a National Championship contender year in year out. All Osborne had to do was keep the car between the ditches for a natty. Then he started recruiting players from the Nebraska Penal League. and the program has been in a continual nosedive since his last two seasons there. So don't blame Solich, Callahan, Pellini, or even the AD's. You want to point the finger at somebody as the reason for a dumpster fire of a program that redheaded sh!tbag would be a good place to start

Winning for 25 years is hardly "keep the car between the ditches for a natty".

Some people can't give coaches any credit for winning. Bizarre.

Osborne knew how to run an organization, no doubt. He had great leadership skills. He also had plenty of help pre-internet keeping his criminals and recruiting "tools" under the radar.
