Bob Sanders nominated for HOF

Ummm....which HOF though?

If it's College then sure why not.

I think Kaeding should be up before him but hey....kickers always get the short end anyway.

College or Pro?

I would say yes & yes. He had a great college career. Played 8 seasons in the NFL, when the average is less than 4 for starters. Was NFL Defensive POY. (That's enough right there, regardless of length of career). 2 time Pro bowler. Super Bowl Champion.

But I do not know how many the NFL takes every year. I would assume a good amount. You have Offensive & Defensive POY. The NFL MVP. Super Bowl MVP. Players that were multi-year Pro Bowlers.... I would assume no less than 6 a year?

It's his 1st year on the ballot, and I think there are 5 other Colts along with him that have been nominated previously and still on the ballot.

Edgerrin James is one of them, and I think he should get in (obviously he's not in yet, so maybe he's behind the 8 ball already - not sure how many votes he came up short previously). Appears they take between 4 and 8 every year to be inducted for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sanders was an impact player for sure when he was on the field. He was injured a lot, so those years he spent, a good chunk was on the sideline.

That said Defensive Player of the Year is a big deal, perhaps that alone would get him in, and frankly the only way he would get in, IMO. 2 time Pro Bowler, those aren't enshrinement numbers to me, but I don't hold a vote so..................

Certainly I hope he does. We shall see how it plays out.

Patyon Manning gets all the credit for that Super Bowl in Indy, but they never win without Bob; they never could do it without him. Too bad his career was cut short due to injury as he was the toughest safety I have ever seen. But the way he played it was impossible to stay healthy. They guy was a missile in pads. Favorite Hawkeye ever.

An all-time great Hawk and difference maker. Like gojojo said, his play elevated Indy's D enough to get them over the hump in the playoffs.

But a Pro HOFer? I just don't see it.

Bob was such a violent, punishing tackler that he affected the catching abilities of Wrs when he was nowhere near them. Very few defensive players can claim to have had such an effect. Then when he did hit them, he hit them with unmercifully bad intentions...and pure, beautiful violence. I think we should be happy that not all safeties play like Bob did, or all football would be cancelled for ever. I say put him in The Hall...he was a once in a lifetime player.

Not even close to a HOFer. Only played in 50 career games. That's the equivalent of playing 3 full seasons with a playoff appearance or two.

If Hawkeye fans take off the black and gold glasses they would realize this.
I could tell you that while wearing 4 pairs of black-and-gold colored glasses...................but since I don't own any, I'm not going to do that.

Seriously, though, the "black-and-gold" or "rose-colored glasses" comment needs to f***ing go. It ran its course a decade ago. Anyone who is that subjective, either isn't being serious....or is killroy.

Just sayin.

Not getting in. Terrell Davis was league MVP, Super Bowl MVP, 2000 yd. season, consecutive games over 100 yds., playoff rushing leader etc.. and he's not in?

That is a fantastic post. And quite true....

I would like to know if ANY NFL Defensive POYs have not made the HOF.

There at least 10 since the award started in 1971. There will be more depending on which active/recently retired winners don't enshrined.

Don't forget DC opening up the middle for Reggie and Marvin. I tell all my local Indy friends that after #18 that those two are the biggest reasons The Colts earned a ring, no one disagrees.

I have a son who isn't a Hawk fan but a big Colt fan. He is convinced that Bob was the best defensive player in the last twenty years. He said he changed the Colts whole game just like he did Iowa's. He also says Bob is the only reason they won that Super Bowl and he worships Manning.

How many people outside of Indy/Iowa would view Bob Sanders as an elite player with a HOF career? Love the guy, but no way.

Pretty sure that guy from N Iowa who played at Greenbay is not in. I forgot his name but confident he was defensive player of the year. Will James Harrison be voted in? I think Troy P will be. (I am a steelers fan).

Gale Sayers only played in 3 or 4 full seasons but that's one helluva benchmark.
