The Jbo free throw thing is a very cool, poignant story in it's own right. Was it the best segment of the documentary? No. But it was the best placed segment of the doc. Like I said elsewhere it perfectly brought the the larger story full circle to present day, imo.

Last year through his play, off court behavior, and social media antics his rep lost some luster. But I think his grand gesture will be, and should be, what he is remembered most for. Hope it is.

With respect to pure basketball, I don't think JBo would provide that much of an impact on this team. He was a great shooter, great free throw shooter and not afraid to have the ball in his hands, but, his inability to create shots for himself and his lack of size and athleticism made him too easy to guard by longer, more athletic players and he was a liability on defense. I think the length and athleticism of Perk, Sandfort, Ulis and now Dix provide a much better net positive because they can play inside and out offensively and can switch on defense a lot more.

It does bring up a really good question though: if we had the ability to add one player from Fran's, or hell even Alford's time, who would it be that would make the biggest impact in the win column?

The answer is Luka or Keegan. We’ve had many very solid players, but nobody else was in NPOY contention and adding one of those guys would make our offense unstoppable.

Reggie Evans wouldn't be the worst pick IMO, either. A guy that could dominate the glass and be a reliable paint presence.

I think uthoff would be the best player to add because he would help offensively and defensively.

Aaron White, or Woodbury for defensive purposes.

I know this may sound weird at first, but I disagree. Here's why. When Luka was here and Keegan, we had the #1 offense in the B1G, and top 20 nationally. Well guess what, they are gone and we STILL have that! Fran's system produces guys who can score. Even with them we lost early in the NCAA, mostly because of our defense or lack there of. Somebody like Woody who could defend in the post, or maybe 5th year Gabe Olesani. Your only going to score so many points with one ball, but if we could be more consistent getting stops and rebounding then maybe we could advance further...

I love all the responses. I guess the first thing is to define exactly what this team needs and where it is weak at. I would say first is rim protection, second is rebounding, and third would maybe be more consistent backcourt shooting and playmaking?

1. Luka - obvious choice here, he can do everything Rebraca can do but better. So he would be a positive for sure and relegate Rebraca to bench minutes.
2. Evans - thought about Evans, would certainly clean up the glass and take out the bigs. But, he can't shoot and can his ability to rebound and defend overcome that liability? Although he would be an improvement over Rebraca and Rebraca is a marginally better FT shooter.
3. Oleseni - I loved Gabe and his athleticism would be great in certain matchups and loved his rim protection, but I think he would share minutes with Rebraca as Filip is more skilled offensively. What we gain on the defensive side of the court we lose offensively.
4. Woody - Much like Oleseni, would share minutes with Rebraca. Can't stretch the floor and can't match up with more athletic bigs.
5. Keegan - the best player on the list, but, in this case, would really just directly take minutes from Kris. Even though everyone wants to say they have different games, they really do play a very similar style. Can they both be on the floor at the same time? Didnt really seem so last year.
6. Uthoff - Like Keegan, a stretch 3 but not as athletic. And honestly not so sure Sandfort isn't a better defender and better getting to the basket.
7. Wieskamp - Ask yourself if you would rather have Wieskamp or Sandfort?

I agree with a lot of what you say. It is so much about the system and the complimentary pieces. I think about Tyler Cook who was super athletic and a fringe NBA guy even today, but always seemed like a fish out of water in Fran's system because he couldn't shoot. The one thing about Fran's system is that it is designed to get good shots and that is why his team's success all come down to how well they shoot. Fran's teams have really only 1 winning condition and that always costs them in the tournament when they are forced to play different styles because of a whole host of factors.

if JaBo was on this team? Nat Champs amarite @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset ?

Throw me in some Greg Stokes too.

I looked back at our centers under Alford. Not to belittle guys, but they were unimpressive. Seth Gorney, Eric Hanson, JAred Reiner. Even our best ever team (in my opinion) - 1970 had 2 superstars, 2 really good players and Dick Jensen. Dick was a good guy (had a class with him) but I think only played about half the time and got 6 points and 5.8 rebounds.

It would have to be a 1 or a 5 (although Peter Jok might be an exception), and the only 1 from Fran's era that might improve this team is Bryce Cartwright. At the 5 it would be Luka if you want to move Filip to the bench to back up Luka and Kris, or Gabe if you want to bring in a rim-protector off the bench.

Another option would be bring Jack Nunge back from Xavier.

Would Bohannon make this team a 22-25 win team? Was the Bohannon scene was the best part of the documentary last night?
jobo Was an assassin at the line , late with the lead, he never coughed up a lead, so yes, I’d have him on my team for when we get into the bonus and late, also as zone breaker

Give me Peter Jok. Almost carried a bunch of freshman to the tourney. Once he left, the team fell off a cliff and won 4 big ten games and lost every road conference game by double digits.
Shitty call and no call at Minnesota kept Iowa out of NCAA tournament.

Pretty good list. I’d find a spot in there for Big Cat Kreiner. With the way this team is built, he and Rebraca sharing time down low would be really strong.
