Saw it over the weekend and thought it was a good movie. Little surprised to see the Coen brothers listed in the credits of a Spielberg film.

Any historians out there know how close to reality this movie was and/or any parts the film that may have taken "liberties" with the truth?

Haven't seen it. That's about the U-2 shootdown and exchange of prisoners for Powers, nyet? Not a good moment for Ike.

Please expound?
Ike was caught in a blatant lie. The administration said it was a weather plane and that we didn't have spy flights. The assumption was that the pilot had been killed or had taken his cyanide pill, but that wasn't the case. Eisenhower had to confess the spying and the lie. The incident occurred about a week before a big summit meeting, and pretty much destroyed the chance of anything positive being accomplished. Also, when Ike refused to apologize to Kruschev during the conference, Kruschev rescinded an invitation for Ike to visit the USSR.
