Planet Iowa
OSU loses to La. Tech tonight, 82-74. That is their second straight loss. Big Ten is not exactly tearing it up so far this year.

OSU is struggling early. I am hoping they continue to struggle until after we play them. Then they can get on a roll.

Purdue & MSU have looked like top 5 teams. Maryland looks like at times they are still trying to figure things out and build chemistry with all the new additions but have a top 5 lineup. Indiana and Iowa look like legit top 25 teams. Michigan looks like they could be a fringe top 25 team but they just lack a frontcourt. Wisconsin has top 40 talent but is trying to figure things out. Northwestern could be a bubble team. Everyone else just doesnt have it this year and really wont factor by the looks of things including Ohio St.

None of the teams in the Big 10 have impressed me yet.

Maryland struggled with Ill State last night. I realize it is a holiday tournament and some teams are more lack than others. But for being #2 I expected them to beat them by 25+.

MSU has looked pretty good, but they are typical Izzo type team.

I would say the next best team is Purdue. They will be able to just pound it down low with their bigs. I only saw 1 half of their game and they were winning by 15+.

Wisky, OSU, Illini, and Minny have struggled so far. Indiana has shown how their coach can't coach. Losing to Wake in Maui was pretty bad.

Could be an interesting year in the Big Ten!

Interesting year but maybe a much clearer path for Iowa. Luckily Purdue, MSU and Maryland will give the B1G major cred this year. Right now I think Iowa fisnishes 4th in the league. Indiana and Iowa both don't have perfect lineups so I think both teams will get beat a couple times in league by teams they shouldnt get beat by but I think Iowa stumbles less and finishes 4th and maybe gets a 4 or 5 seed depending on how we do non con.

MSU looks to be the clear favorite to me right now. They are good already and Izzo's teams always seem to improve as the season progresses. Purdue looks pretty stout (in more ways than one) as well. Maryland has a lot of talent and unless there is some sort of internal strife going on, they will eventually gel. After that, if we continue playing team basketball as we did at Marquette, I don't see why we can't finish in the top four or five of the conference.

I think this too after watching most of the BIG teams play already. I tell you this, after watching OSU last night, Matta has got his work cut out with this team....wow. And OSU is a great example of what I am seeing with a lot of teams with young star talent but it's young and inexperienced. Matta's team just doesn't understand how hard you have to play at this level on both ends of the court, they do not protect possessions, move the ball well to get quality shots (too much one on one play) plus they turn the ball over way too much and their effort is lacking.

This is the BIG differentiator between Iowa's play to others. Men and boys playing the game is what I am seeing. And wait until these teams we are talking about actually play away from their friendly confines in a true road game in the BIG.....if they don't get coached up and learn quickly, it could get ugly for a lot of teams.
