The HR team is still available, can somebody send our contact information to Tom? Lets make this happen. Who was our coach again?

It would be really nice to get at least one somewhat tough opponent in this event. Right now it is a waste of time.

Been a member for awhile never posted on here before. But after reading this I thought I should. Not sure how making fun of a up and coming program trying to challenge themselves helps the sport. We lose programs every year and this type of attitude wont help things.Iowa fans bitch no one wants to wretle us well why would they if the supposed most knowledgable fans in the country are gonna make fun of them from there couch or office. The people who posted on this thread should respect the sport and the work the kids at Buffalo do everyday to be D1 wrestlers and by putting them down just shows your intelligence.

It isn't a put down. It's a reality.

I somewhat agree with this, I like the fact that Iowa brings in smaller schools to let them wrestle on the biggest stage in college wrestling, if we stop thinking of the ICDuals as a challenge and view it as a warm up / exhibition vs an actual dual tourney, it makes it a lot easier to accept.....

....however, when a team like Alabama or Ohio State football plays a FCS team, you will hear the same type of comments. Anytime a top elite D1 school faces a lower tier D1 or 1AA type team, this is the reaction, and it's understandable. Wrestling is different of course as we are trying to grow the sport, but it's a natural reaction when you only get so many duals in a year and we blow 2 of them on significantly lower level teams. But I am still for it...when it happens over Thanksgiving so I can see it.

The reality is they win 3 matches worse case scenario better then lots of other teams that come to Carver

Look at there lineup guys
125 Akins beat Peters at Ncaa
133 Lantry was round 12 beat Laux at midlands 3-2
Hwt Gunning lost to Stoll 5-1 midlands and I doubt Stoll is ready come IC duals

See, now you are making me feel bad. Not really but I thought I'd throw that out there.

Ok, what I think a lot of frustrations are with the Iowa duals is that it should be good teams that bring in a great crowd. I don't mind Buffalo coming in but that will likely be the toughest team. Now, if it were ASU, UNI and Buffalo...we'd be cooking.

Yeah its a put down. Every year the same people bitch about wrestling lower level teams. Never fails. I guess im one of the few that sees why its a good thing. Don't worry the big ten grind will follow!

I don't think it is a put down to say a team that got 39th with 5.5 points at the NCAAs isn't a tough opponent.

Personally, I'm glad they are coming. I'd be fine with several low to mid level D1 teams. The field being Iowa, a junior college and D3 is just bad.

I too am glad they are coming. We don't need to have top 10 programs coming the first weekend but if there were 3 other D1 teams like NDSU and Buffalo that would be awesome.

While we'd selfishly like to see the Hawks take on the best of the best every time out, we wrestle arguably the toughest dual meet schedule in the nation every year with the Iowa City Duals as they have been. The season is a long grind already. I have no problem with the current format and giving some lesser-known programs a chance to come into Carver and compete.

And while I don't think it's any Iowa fan's intent to belittle other programs, I do think west2east makes a good point about showing them an appropriate level of respect.

If nothing else, the Iowa City Duals are a chance to see the Hawks in action very early in the season, when we're all eager to see how they're looking (especially the newcomers to the lineup). I hope we blow away past attendance totals for the Iowa City Duals this fall -- not because we're coming to see a marquee match-up, but because we're making a statement about how much Iowa fans support the Hawks and the sport.

Looking at Buffalo duals from last year the interesting ones are
They lost to
Cornell 18-15
Northern Iowa 22-16
They beat
Indiana 21-16
Old Dominion 22-14
Eastern Michigan 20-12
Northern Illinois 20-17

Thanks for posting. Needless to say, they are turning things around up there.

Hey, west2east. . . . Welcome to the board as a poster! It's great to have you participating in some dialogue. How about joining the Hawkeye 5,000 as an automatic monthly donor to the HWC? It's easy and doesn't have to be a lot of dough, but when thousands of us join in, the result will be spectacular for the HWC!

Here's the link, just in case!;)

I don't think anyone is disappointed that Iowa is finally inviting d-1 schools to this event. Most probably see this as an improvement. I'd like to see them make it a d-1 tourney even if lower level teams are invited.

wouldn't matter who we wrestled in this if we were winning at the end of the season.

I like format of the Iowa city duals and Luther open. Iowa city duals is a warm up and gives back ups a chance to wear the Iowa singlet. Division 1 season is ridiculous when it comes to the wear and tear on the body. Easing into season is great idea. Yes, iowa fan want hammers all the time but you won't have much of a team left at the end of the season. The Luther open is a public wrestle off. Both events help grow the sport of wrestling. I believe Iowa has gone out of there way to help grow the sport of wrestling by taking on smaller schools and duals out of the norm. I'm wrestling junky and now started following wrestling at the D 3 level. That's direct cause of the Luther open. I highly recommend following D 3 in the state of Iowa. D 3 wrestling in Iowa is loaded with good matches. Someone posted earlier about having uni come. That only happens if swab and brands huge it out. Both sides want home site every other year. Please don't kill me but I think uni could win the dual if they have one next year. That's with Lee and warner red shirting.
