After watching Jordan this year. My question for those that still live in the area. How did he and Connor match up last year? It is clear that Jordan belongs, and they had to have been on the floor at the same time. Thanks for any info.

My attempt here is only to gauge connor, not imply he will beat out Jordan, before anyone goes there.

Jordan's team never came close to beating Connor's in the three years they went head-to-head. (Pemsl's team did beat IC West twice). Jordan and Connor are completely different types of players. Connor is five or six inches taller. I have to say, watching JoBo, that he has gone from a very hot and sometimes cold shooter at Linn-Mar (okay, mostly hot) to a much better, consistent shooter at Iowa. In fact, his improvement at Iowa is simply astounding.

Connor is a completely different type of player . He's heady and smooth. Does a lot of little things to help a team and has improved his jump shot.

Like most freshman and players ... can he move his feet well enough on D? We'll find out.

Connor will play well with Jbo. He will relieve some ball handling pressure from Jbo and free him up to play some off the ball.

Moss struggled often at the two. Is CM good enough to play the two ahead of Moss? Is he quick enough to play B1G defense?

Steve Bergman teaches great defense at West High. Connor will be a nice addition defensively and he is a smart ball player. He is not the shooter Ellingson is but he is better at most everything else.

I think Moss can eventually exceed Jok as overall player,. Moss has the athleticism to be more effective defender and dribble drive guy.

I see Cmac playing backup PG minutes next year as CW doesn't look like he has good enough handles. Also they can play together to close games.

As far as Cmac playing with Bohannon, that lineup doesn't strike me as super defenders man-to-man and I have some doubts about Cmac's ability to dribble drive at B1G level. If we played Wisconsin style, then it would work.

Connor has a lot of work to do to come close to JBO, and that is no knock on him at all.

Jordan has become an absolute terror. We have a PG for the next 3 years.

at the very worse..McCaffery gives Fran another option...not knowing what happens with CWilliams (I still like his defense)...I could see Connor being the #1 backup to JBo at Point. Which isn't a bad thing..I agree with this.. heady and smooth. Does a lot of little things to help a team and has improved his jump shot. He also is very good in ball distribution...I actually believe he may end of being better than JBo at it.

Defense? its better than any returning guard not named CWilliams as of this date.

The concern is how he handles the pressure of being the coaches' son...because there will be some.....Connor does have the Fran/Margaret competitive fire...it may not show as a true freshman verbally..but it will on the court..

... I don't think JBo & CMac will play very much together (at least early on)...but what happens with Williams, Ellingson & Dailey will have an impact.

...Moss starts at 2 (as he did every game since Notre Dame)...I think (hope) with another summer & overseas trip he gets more consistent to the point that Fran trust him...even when he is not scoring..we shall see.

I almost want to wait to see if anyone transfers before I say anything about what roles guys will play. But I will say that with Jok heading out and Conner coming in right away our defense improves, our ball handling improves and our passing improves. I also think our offensive flow improves.

Comparing Bohannon and Conner? Hard for me to do as nobody expected this kind of Jordan Bohannon, not even this overly optimistic fan. So, I think I'll give Conner a pass and just say that I expect he will come in and contribute, including giving us another person who can run the point in McCaffery's system.

They are different types of players. I would agree that what happens next year depends what the roster looks like. The oldest McCaffery boy is a good all-around basketball player. When you are 6-5, have basketball IQ and some toughness, you can be a good/contributing player. Conor isn't going to be pulling up from 24 feet like Bohannon, but he can defend bigger guards better than Bohannon can. Will be interesting to see how it sorts out.

Jordan's JR year (1-16-2015), West beat LM 61-56 in a great game. LM led going into the 4th quarter. Bohannon had 22 points on 5-11 three point shooting while Connor had 16 points (including 8 FTs).

Jordan's SR year, West won 77-71, but Connor did not play (concussion). Bohannon had 22 points. Here's the highlights of the game.

Conner seems like a point forward

Never seen him play but it from all the posts he appears to be the guy who will make the great second to third pass in the offensive sets while jabo will make great passes in transition

I have no idea about Connor having not seen him this year. I do have to chuckle at the fact that I've read from multiple folks on here that he will struggle on defense and from multiple folks that he'll be a great defender.

This is a from what I've heard thing. Conner will struggle against good ball handling, quick, guards. If we can switch and put him on a shooter, he'll be alright. I've also heard that sometimes his effort on D takes a reason, something challenging, or he gets disinterested. That isn't uncommon for high school kids and I'm sure someone, maybe his Dad or his Coach, or his Mom, will make sure he gets rid of that bad habit.

Conner is no less capable of defending than many 6'5" guys in the Big Ten. He's certainly an upgrade on Jok, who was never taught defense in high school and who's legs weren't trustworthy to make complicated motions without an ankle bending in the wrong direction.

Will he ever be a stopper? No. Can he be a good defender? With effort sure. More importantly, can he close out on shooters and can we provide an inside guy that makes penetration a foray into the land of the giants? Yes and yes.

How does Connor compare to Bohannon in terms of ball handling and passing? I envision him acting as a "foul trouble" buffer for Bohannon at times, being able to keep the offense running in ways that Williams struggled this season. It seemed any time Bohannon came out for Williams, we had to turn our full focus to defense and struggled to run our sets.

That won't be his only role, but adding 5-10 minutes for a handful of games to keep our offense humming in addition to whatever normal role he earns would seem like a good upgrade for next year's team.

The potential is there, especially if you consider DEFENSE. Jok was outscored in some games, and in multiple segments of a lot of games. That does not help when your best offensive player cannot or rather, will not stop the opposition... It is my humble opinion that Jok lost himself a lot of $$ because his lackadaisical defensive play. And I think he had the potential to play good defense. He just could not get his head into it. Unfortunately...

Connor will be a good addition to the team. It will be interesting to see what he can do at the next level... I believe that within 2 years he can be a solid or better contributor.
