Cullan Schriever and Cael Happel.
I'm looking forward to watching Rathjen vs Schriever in folkstyle if the match up happens. Rathjen is very physical for his age and weight and I think he is going to be a good one. No knock on any of the wrestlers and I hope several of them become Hawks.

How old is Rathjen? What school? I know he and Schriever were both in the 106 bracket at Northern Plains, but, unfortunately Rathjen lost before meeting Cullen. Cullen won the bracket. If Cullen is wrestling 100 now, I have to believe he will still be at 106 this high school season.

Rathjen will be a 9th grader in the fall and he will be at Ankeny. He wrestled Schriever somewhere else over the summer and it was a one point match in the second period when Schriever got hurt I believe. I think Rathjen will be at 113 but he might be at 106.

About the only guarantee in the world is that those two will not be in the same weight class at the end of the season. Both are legit 4-timer candidates and no coach or parent is going to allow those two to end one of the other's opportunity.

Unless the kids are close friends, I'd hope that they wouldn't purposely avoid each other.

In Illinois JRent (4x finalist), Gomez (3x champ) and O'Connor (4x champ) would have all been in the same state bracket as 9th graders had it not been for Gomez losing a wrestle off just before regionals that forced him up a weight (still took 3rd and knocked off a returning champ). All 3 of those guys came in as potential 4x champs and the parents knew each other. Path of least resistance to 4 titles is hollow and gets exposed quickly at the next level.

Interesting for Rathjen, where does he go?
106 - Schriever, Ayala??
113 Biscoglia /Bennett?
120 Teske - no **probably road block for Biscoglia /Bennett moving up
126, maybe Teske goes here to make some room for the others

I'm assuming he goes 13. He wrestled 110 all year and has been down at 106 for freco. Briscoglia will be at 20. Bennett has been wrestling 20 and 26

Ayala will be a smaller (ish) 106 next year but cuts down from 100 to 88. I know Schreiver was around 115 a few months ago. I bet Rathjen gets up to the mid 120's by the end of the summer.

Everything hinges on what Teske does. He can win it at whatever weight he wants to wrestle. If he goes 120 Biscoglia will run down to 113 to avoid him. And you could have Cullen, Drake, and Caleb at 106, yikes! If Rathjen can make 106 and be healthy I'll take him over Schreiver.

The CIML is just dirty. And watch out for more Sebolt kids to end up at Mason City in the next few years. The problem is that they're all tiny from years and years of year round wrestling and weight cutting.

Having been one of those tiny kids who cut weight during junior high, this last sentence makes me cringe.

Rathjen will go where his body dictates regardless of who else is there. According to the closest source to Caleb, 113 is most likely. 106 only if he doesn't really grow at all and 120 only if he grows a lot. As the source said, "Caleb can't run from competition and to be the best you have to beat the best."

Weight cutting isn't just for Junior High and up. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count on knowing about kids who cut through weight classes as young as 8 years old. I'm not talking 2 or 3 pounds. I'm talking 7-10 pounds. To me that's the biggest factor in burnout for youth wrestlers. Wrestling year round at a young age and constant weight cutting. Plus I know kids who've had High School age injuries at 9 and 10 years old. Torn meniscus, torn labrum, multiple concussion type things.

Yep. I was burned out by 8th grade, with a knee injury to boot. Started growing like a weed once I quit. Not a fan of cutting any weight at that age.

Caleb has that mentality. He wants to wrestle other studs to see how he can do against them and he won't hide from them. I've heard 113 or 120 but that was 6 months ago. All depends on how much he grows. His brother is at 195 and his dad won around 170 so he might fill out sometime.

Yep Wad- Caleb ain't running anywhere. He is going to the weight his body goes. And well my source that was close to Caleb was his Dad, Kirk, who is a close friend and who I spoke with this morning after seeing all the speculation on weight and whether he would "dodge" Cullen which is bs from the gonegolfing poster. I hate that shit. So gonegolfong the 1 guarantee from you is Caleb and Cullen will not wrestle the same weight?! And u say parents won't allow it? Better call Kirk Rathjen then buddy. Caleb will wrestle anybody, anytime and anywhere. Sorry for getting pissed but for someone to insulate parents would be involved with Caleb and Cullen not wrestling is horrible at least from the Rathjen perspective.

Gomez losing that wrestle off just before the state series led to going up a weight and his 3rd place win over returning champ Yates. 3x champ Kris Williams lost in the finals his senior year to Yates. A lot of potential 4x champs willing to bump heads was awesome for fans.

He kind of put the hurting on Williams too. It's crazy a kid as good as Townsell never won one. Speaks to the depth of 3A IL.

I agree completely. I doubt Caleb or Kirk, who travel all over to seek out competition, are going to be avoiding anyone. My personal opinion is that he matches up well with anyone in the state currently but my opinion is obviously biased. Can't wait to see him in the fall as well as who is at his weight.

This is why I'm not a fan of Sebolt. He gets kids at a high level but at what cost. You just can't wrestle at a high level year round starting in second grade. He was pushed hard and how was his college career????

gonegolfing is a famous message board moron.

Jesus, I get attacked for talking shit about Sebolt, but everyone else gets a pass.

He slammed a kid against a wall at state. He browbeats the shit of his kids. He won't shake hands after matches. He's a poor loser and will go off on young kids competing against his kids after a loss. He burns kids up and turns them into robots with no social skills and makes wrestling not f***.

He's a puke.
