Caitlin Clark effect: viewership of 1st rd up 27% for Womens tourney...Iowa/Louisville numbers released

Then Iowa had the most viewers of any 2nd round game (it had more than the Iowa State 1st round men's game 1.457m to 1.359m) Is it any surprise, though? Because of Iowa something has success. Iowa is a lightning rod when it comes to college athletics, and the networks know it.

could be the officiating also. these days it’s very entertaining to watch that aspect of the game.

In truth, there are several teams that were drawing large crowds including Indiana,LSU, SC and others, in addition to Iowa. Similarly, the interest is showing up on TV.

CC has certainly been a factor, but more and more fans are checking out the game and becoming fans. AAU , coaching and university commitment to women sports has elevated the game. I became woke with Vivian and Dr Grant and continue now with Lisa. The Iowa WBB has been more enjoyable then the men unfortunately for a while.

@IowasLaw is not gonna like this.......oh wait that's right. It doesn't matter to him because he doesn't watch women's sports and therefore it's not as big a deal as we make it out to be.

Can only share my personal experience. I have always watched the Hawkeye women when they were on.

Because of CC now I'm checking out a few other games if nothings on or watching teams that could be potential match ups for Iowa.

So yeah because of the CC affect I've spilled over into watching more women's college BB.

Indiana Boxscore gives them the largest second round game. I only checked all the second round games and made this chart. DISCLAIMER: I usually mess something up (as my wife will tell you), but I think these numbers are accurate based on each school's boxscore.

Iowa women's first round game was the same time as ISU men - late afternoon weekday, not a good time

In another story about the Raygun t-shirts for the women's team, they mentioned CC had a deal with Nike. Any idea how big $?

I'll admit to having watched very little women's hoops in the past, but will absolutely be tuning into tonight's game.

For me, though, it's more about the team's success (Caitlin is obviously key to that) than it is to watch any one player play.

Yep, IU had more because their arena at 85% full is more than Carver at 100%. I think if the Fire Marshal would have allowed it, we could have broken Carver's 22,000 record last Sunday

Just think what Audience would have been if LSU coached hadn’t told everyone to turn off her teams ugly game before hand. Sometime, program before helps. LSU/Miami delaying game 20 minutes made eyes bleed.
I’m in Florida on vacation. The time slot for Sunday sucked. 9:00 start time which didn’t actually tip off until almost 9:30 and didn’t get over until 11:30. If that game started an hour or 90 minutes earlier the ratings would have been even higher. Potentially could have pushed up towards 3MM.

Do we know what time the Women's NPOY will be announced today? I thought I saw a tweet saying 330 eastern, but I can't find it anymore.

Yeah…nothing quite like being home by the second weekend. 😉
Luka and Keegan were good players on crappy teams.
"Good players". I'd consider being player of the year a little above "good".

A 2 seed and a team that won the Big 10 tournament, nice whiff. When you measure the success of a team by how they perform in a one and done tournament, you're incredibly flawed. The best team doesn't always win. You really think the 4 teams in the men's final 4 are the best 4 in the country?

I'm not taking anything away from what the women have done, they're incredible and are fun to watch (I haven't missed a game) - but the men are pretty good also. Both can be true. Just need to figure out that they need to improve defensively or they'll continue to struggle in the tourney.

I saw a post on Reddit say the Georgia game was the most viewed first weekend game in the history of the tournament. Combine that with having the 3rd largest crowd for a first weekend game in the history of the tournament.

Impressive.
The crowd was great, came across awesome on tv

I don't think it's so much that they need to figure out that they need to do it, but rather how.........they're gonna improve.

Because the issue is that they won't because Fran.....

Well, guess what fellas, Friday night's game is an 830pm CT tipoff.

Hopefully the first game doesn't run long! If ESPN is hoping for a giant TV audience, the game starting at 9:40pm ET doesn't seem like a good idea.
For a Friday night game, I think 9:30 is okay, maybe even perfect. Sunday was not a good time, but I stayed up for it anyway.
