Caitlin Clark: Nation's BEST GUARD. USBWA 1st Team All American. WBCA&USBWA Nat'l Freshman of YR. 799 Pts is Iowa FR Record. 26.6 PPG is #1 in Nation

She has been averaging around 7 assists a game as well and I'm guessing that she would average at least 10 per game if others just finished off those great feeds that she gives them. Monica seems to blow a couple, or more, potential assists for Clark by missing shots that she normally makes.

It seems like Gary Barta has really ticked off Indiana. I’d be interested to see what happens next September.

Some of her passes are as amazing as her shots. She's something

If Clark finishes with her current scoring average, it will be the SECOND-highest by a freshman in Division I women's history.

The top three now are:

* San Diego State's Tina Hutchinson at 29.9 in 1983-84
* Appalachian State's Valorie Whiteside at 27.1 in 1984-85
* Delaware's Elena Delle Donne at 26.7 in 2009-10 (ESPN Stats & Info).

Crazy to think that she has 4 seasons of eligibility left after this year. Most players don’t hit 700 points in a career. It is too bad the ages didn’t line up to have her on the team with our last two B1G POY women. Just imagine what a team with that lineup could have accomplished.
They only play with ONE ball........ ;) Just kidding, BUT would she be playing the same role if Doyle was on the team? Obviously if MG was still in the post there be less scoring for her and KD as well...

March 6 Update:

Caitlin had 35 points in Iowa's 83-75 win vs Little Debbie.

She averages 27.4 points per game (631 points in 23 games)

Not following the women's season closely, but how did she not win B1G player of the year?
Only knock is high turnover rate.. and can be pretty obvious on her displeasure of how the game is officiated. ... to be fair the officiating in the big ten goes from ok to comical too often..IMHO

I was hoping she could get the triple double.

Without getting to watch the women much this year, it was apparent vs Purdue that we do not guard the perimeter very well. It was frustrating to watch them allow Purdue to hang around so long in last night’s game, all because they didn’t have the energy or hustle to guard the PU 3- point shooters.

Hopefully that 3-point showing for us was the exception and not the rule.

IMO was their best game of the year as the defense and rebounding were vastly improved. Her dribble behind the back move in the 4th quarter was a thing of beauty.

Thoughts on who wins Freshman of the Year?

It'll be Paige and it likely won't be close, and it'll be due to the logo next to her head. Not saying it should or shouldn't be, but like everything else in the world; politics.
Agree, with the talent around her (Paige) she never needs to force anything. Not so at Iowa, sometimes the team wants her to take over, not always but in stretches.
Caitlin figured out last night to feed the big dog but Monica was lights out, not always the case.

Do women ever go pro early or does everybody end up staying all 4 years? She could end up with ridiculous career stats if she’s healthy for 4 years.

I don't recall any super star players leaving early for the WNBA.

Remember Sabrina Ionescu from Oregon? Some speculated she might leave after her junior year but she stayed all 4 years.

And remember, this is a free year. Clark could play 4 more years after this year (unlikely, of course).

and isn't the rest of the team 1 junior and 3 sophomores? The future looks good. And good recruits coming in the next 2 classes.

At least 10 assists tonight against Rutgers. Plays way beyond her years

The present looks good, too. After tonight's win, Iowa moved up to a #6 seed, according to ESPN.

The ESPN Bracketologist wrote this;

Lower-seeded teams won in three of the four Big Ten tournament quarterfinals on Thursday: fifth-seeded Northwestern over 4-seed Michigan, No. 7 seed Michigan State over second-seeded Indiana and 6-seed Iowa over No. 3 seed Rutgers. That resulted in a better Bracketology seed for Iowa (jumped one line to a No. 6) and a seed line lost for both Indiana (down to a No. 4) and Michigan (down to a No. 6). Meanwhile, the lone bubble team still playing -- Oklahoma -- takes the court for the first time in the Big 12 tournament on Friday. Wins over Oklahoma State and possibly West Virginia would put the Sooners in the field.

It’s becoming more common recently. I believe Satou Sabally (Oregon) and Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M) left early last year. Charli Collier (Texas), who might be #1 pick this year, just declared early as a junior.

My understanding, under the current WNBA rules, is that technically Caitlin wouldn’t be eligible for the WNBA draft until she’s a senior because she doesn’t turn 22 until January of her senior year. The WNBA requires a player to be 22 in the year of the draft. Paige Bueckers from UConn, however, would be eligible after her junior year because she would turn 22 several months earlier. At least that is my understanding of how it works. I’m sure the WNBA could change those rules but I don’t know if that has to be collectively bargained or not.

Amanda Zowie B (sp) from Minnesota left school early, but I don't know if she ended up in the WNBA or overseas. She torched Iowa for 30 and 20 one year.

That was a very physical game. Surprised they fought through it. No chance a few years ago. Also can't believe the ref's let them mix it up that much. Almost lost Caitlin for the year on the trip.

Monica is leading the nation in FG%, if anything, Clark gets extra assists because of who she is passing to. Kind of like how JBo only set the record because he has great shooters and Luka around him. :rolleyes:
