The story linked at the end of this post says Caitlin's previous deal with Nike expired at the conclusion of the women's college basketball season.

With the expiration of her Nike contract, she reportedly received offers from Under Armour and Adidas, the former meeting including Stephen Curry recruiting. However, Nike clearly did not want to let her go.

This NEW endorsement deal with Nike would include her own signature shoe.

Similarly, last year, Nike signed Sabrina Ionescu to a deal worth $24 million and released a signature Sabrina shoe.

Oh man, you can hear it now. Pretty "pale looking" group....

ESPN, on the front page of their WNBA section, has an article wondering where A'ja Wilsons's shoe deal is. A'ja is a two-time WNBA champ and league MVP. She’s also an Olympic gold medalist.

They write that Wilson has the star power but point out that the only WNBA players with signature shoe deals are white. A'ja, of course, is Black.

And ESPN wonders why people tune them out.

Some interesting tidbits being reported by the NY Post:

The 8-year deal could end up being worth $28 million and a signature shoe according to the Wall Street Journal.

Caitlin's previous deal with Nike was inked in 2022 and expired following this past season.

In mid-February Caitlin's reps from Excel Sports Management met with brands like Adidas, Under Armour and Puma — in addition to Nike — and told them they were looking for a $3 million per year deal as a starting point. At the time, Clark had yet to declare for the WNBA Draft, but it was clear she would be the brightest star in the sport again next year — whether still at the University of Iowa or as a pro.

Puma balked at the $3 million starting point and left the negotiations. They already have Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty on the roster with her own signature shoe.

Adidas' offer of 4 years and $6 million didn’t come close to the $3 million per year mark.

Under Armour included its client, Stephen Curry, in its attempt to land Clark, The Athletic reported, and came in with a $16 million deal over 4 years, including a signature shoe.

No one could match Nike, though, which may have Clark’s Olympics future in mind. The 8-year deal would last through the next 3 Olympic Games, starting this summer in Paris, as well as 2028 in Los Angeles and 2032 in Brisbane, Australia.

Sabrina Ionescu, also of the Liberty, is reported to have received a $24 million deal from Nike, but injuries will reportedly prevent her from getting all of it.
