Cal voted to Hall of Fame; Ryan falls short

INDIANAPOLIS -- Kentucky coach John Calipari has received enough votes to be elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com.
An official announcment is expected soon.
Wisconsin's Bo Ryan did not receive enough votes.
ESPN.com reported that Calipari received the minimum number of votes (18 of the possible 24) required for election. The development, coincidentally, comes less than 24 hours after Calipari's Wildcats lost to Ryan's Badgers in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Calipari's election will receive mixed reviews because of the fact that the 56-year-old Clarion graduate has had two Final Fours vacated by the NCAA. On the other hand, he's undeniably an iconic figure of the sport -- one who has officially made four Final Fours, won a national championship, helped develop prospects into NBA All-Stars and led three different schools (UMass, Memphis, Kentucky) to No. 1 rankings in the AP poll.
Calipari also coached briefly in the NBA.
He'll become the seventh active college basketball coach to be elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The others are Jim Boeheim, Larry Brown, Mike Krzyzewski, Chris Mullin, Rick Pitino and Roy Williams.

I can deny that he is iconic.

I look forward to his plaque mentioning the vacated final fours and the time A respected coach threatened to kill him.

He is The Coach They Love to Hate to a large degree because he does winning. Big winning, and winning big.
So you add it all up, and what you have is a great coach who a lot of people wish wasn't great.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery isn't one of them.
"I think in a lot of ways, he's been a visionary," McCaffery said. "He's done things a little bit different, and he's been successful. Some people don't like the guys that are really successful. I respect the guys that are really successful."
