1st and goal from the three. Call a time out Ferentz!
The QB pooped his pants on that series. Not the coaches.
You lost me with the future NFL hall of fame player. That’s not going to happen with his present decision making and lack of confidence.Yeah sure. He's a future NFL hall of fame player but it's his fault? I don't like to question a group of coaches who squeeze diamonds out of the rough stuff the way that these guys do, but I think that all of us Hawkeye fanatics can agree that a timeout would have been nice at that moment.
agreed, I just don't agree with the playcall to begin with. pound the rock...our O was rolling!I have to tag that on Stanley. It was first and goal at the 4. There was no reason to blindly chuck it. We had 3 more downs to get 7. That was a panic when there was no need to. Unbelievable poor decision.

Did BF just chuck it or did Stanley?BF can still bail him out with TO. Stanley killed the play with like 6 seconds on play clock....that was a pretty good indication things weren't going well.

Not on coaches, Stanley tried to change play way too late. KF ran down to cal TO but too lateI won’t disagree. We had 4 downs to get 7 or settle for 3 at worst. We needed our time outs folks which we did to get the ball back with more than 20 seconds.
A poised QB does not chuck that. If there was confusion, just take the snap and sneak it into the line and live to play another down.

Not ELITEHe might have been trying, don't know, but he's got to run 20 yards. Might not have made it.
Among many adjectives to describe Nate Stanley today.....'poised' is about #174 on the list.I won’t disagree. We had 4 downs to get 7 or settle for 3 at worst. We needed our time outs folks which we did to get the ball back with more than 20 seconds.

Nate Stanley reminds me a lot of Mike Gesell. Both great representatives of the university, good leaders, but about as non-clutch as you can get for a D1 athlete with a few notable exceptions (Stanley vs O$U last year and Gesell vs North Carolina?).That was one of the most boneheaded plays I've seen at ANY level. You call timeout when you realize not everyone is on the same page. Then Stanley gets all panicked and just throws the ball. Hell, take a sack - that's way better than throwing an INT. Arghhh. Ao many failures today and most by Stanley.

Great comparison except I think Stanley is a terrible leader on the field. You need poise and Stanley doesnt have that at this time.
Also, Stanley cant handle pressure filled games. The OSU game last year had no pressure - no one expected us to win and nothing on the line. He gets scares and panicked in pressure filled games/moments.
I agree Fant is the reason for the int and I am guessing that is why is wasn't in on the last driveThat play was not on Stanley but on Fant. His defender got to stay with eyes in backfield and read where the ball was going since Fant remained standing in place and got the INT. Timing of play was fine for every other offensive player other than out all American whose brother tweets about not getting the ball enough. Maybe he should focus more on knowing the game situation and keeping his head in the game to garner all the accolades to date. If Hock is in his slot position on that play, Young walks in the endzone with as Hock take the INT defender out of the play. A great audible to get out of a bad play and into a good play by Stanley. Should have been a TD.
Really?? Stanley had 5 touchdowns on 20 passes vs OSU. Zero INTs... I would take that pressure performance any day
I think there were a lot of Iowa players and coaches shitting their pants. The QB pooped his pants on that series. Not the coaches.

I've said it before, he's not a very good closer when we need late game points. If he is all that, he turns to the ref and calls time out. Leaders do those things in those situations. Stanley did not play with composure all day. No need to rush in that situation with 3 timeouts, at the 4 with less than 4 minutes left in the game.
He did, officials didn't see him. Per post game show.1st and goal from the three. Call a time out Ferentz!
