CALL A TIME OUT FERENTZ

I yelled the same thing, fellow Hawkeyes fanatic. You have an obvious college football playoff contender, and let it run down your leg on silly game management decisions like this. It's just mind bottling.

He might have been trying, don't know, but he's got to run 20 yards. Might not have made it.

The QB pooped his pants on that series. Not the coaches.

Yeah sure. He's a future NFL hall of fame player but it's his fault? I don't like to question a group of coaches who squeeze diamonds out of the rough stuff the way that these guys do, but I think that all of us Hawkeye fanatics can agree that a timeout would have been nice at that moment.

You lost me with the future NFL hall of fame player. That’s not going to happen with his present decision making and lack of confidence.

It was everybody's fault. No way in hell do you run a play in that confusion when you have THREE timeouts in your pocket. Oh my gawd! Stupid, stupid, stupid... But it only cost Iowa a trip to Indy. No biggie.

I have to tag that on Stanley. It was first and goal at the 4. There was no reason to blindly chuck it. We had 3 more downs to get 7. That was a panic when there was no need to. Unbelievable poor decision.
agreed, I just don't agree with the playcall to begin with. pound the rock...our O was rolling!

I'm actually a Huskers fan just poking at some of the crazier posts that I've seen around here. I was rooting for Iowa against Penn State though. It was a good game, even though you guys came up short.

I have said it before. We f'n run that play clock down all the time and then hurry at the end. I agree on the TO but we're always hurrying at the end and when we try to change a play that crap happens. Just horrible game all the way around on offense and general composure.

If he is all that, he turns to the ref and calls time out. Leaders do those things in those situations. Stanley did not play with composure all day. No need to rush in that situation with 3 timeouts, at the 4 with less than 4 minutes left in the game.

You just cannot let that happen. Coaches can call time and Stanley can call time. I blame both of them. So frustrating to lose like that when the game was right there for a Win.

I won’t disagree. We had 4 downs to get 7 or settle for 3 at worst. We needed our time outs folks which we did to get the ball back with more than 20 seconds.

A poised QB does not chuck that. If there was confusion, just take the snap and sneak it into the line and live to play another down.

Not on coaches, Stanley tried to change play way too late. KF ran down to cal TO but too late

Blame A- Brian Ferentz. You run the ball on first and goal. Don't get in? Clock keeps moving, no biggie.

Blame B- Nate Stanley. His read appeared to be good as to what the defense was going to do but you can't make that call with 6 or whatever seconds on the play clock. The timeout should have come from him.

That was one of the most boneheaded plays I've seen at ANY level. You call timeout when you realize not everyone is on the same page. Then Stanley gets all panicked and just throws the ball. Hell, take a sack - that's way better than throwing an INT. Arghhh. Ao many failures today and most by Stanley.

Leadership is supposed to be a primary trait in your field general. Nate showed NONE in the most critical moment of the season and the price paid was to f-up basically everything that the team was playing for.

Among many adjectives to describe Nate Stanley today.....'poised' is about #174 on the list.

Nate Stanley reminds me a lot of Mike Gesell. Both great representatives of the university, good leaders, but about as non-clutch as you can get for a D1 athlete with a few notable exceptions (Stanley vs O$U last year and Gesell vs North Carolina?).

Great comparison except I think Stanley is a terrible leader on the field. You need poise and Stanley doesnt have that at this time.
Also, Stanley cant handle pressure filled games. The OSU game last year had no pressure - no one expected us to win and nothing on the line. He gets scares and panicked in pressure filled games/moments.

1st & goal at the 3. RUN, RUN and RUN again & again if there isn't 6 more points already on the board.

Burn the clock in the process. Put Pedo State on their backs

Stanley should have never been in the position to mess up. Horrendous coaching move considering

In hindsight, BF is kicking himself. I guarantee you

Really?? Stanley had 5 touchdowns on 20 passes vs OSU. Zero INTs... I would take that pressure performance any day

That play was not on Stanley but on Fant. His defender got to stay with eyes in backfield and read where the ball was going since Fant remained standing in place and got the INT. Timing of play was fine for every other offensive player other than out all American whose brother tweets about not getting the ball enough. Maybe he should focus more on knowing the game situation and keeping his head in the game to garner all the accolades to date. If Hock is in his slot position on that play, Young walks in the endzone with as Hock take the INT defender out of the play. A great audible to get out of a bad play and into a good play by Stanley. Should have been a TD.

I agree Fant is the reason for the int and I am guessing that is why is wasn't in on the last drive

How was there any pressure in that game? I mean he was playing with house money - we were expected to lose big. He was loose so he played well. You put big pressure on him (see Wisky the last 2 years and this PSU game), he blows it down his leg. He panicks and plays scared.

He is like a deer drossing the road. Every game we see those moments. He has a real hard time conceding that a play is truly ever over.

I've said it before, he's not a very good closer when we need late game points.
