Can Iowa avoid the 7 year itch in 2022?

The 2021 season went in the books at 10-4, better than the 8-5 season in 2013, but the fan base is taking a similar trek to Iowa's 7-6 2014 season, when Iowa State, Minnesota and Nebraska all last beat Iowa.

I didn't read the article, but Iowa entered 2021 season with a huge two game stand against two Top 25 teams, who didn't finish there.

Iowa actually in 2021 played in two Top 10, one was a Top 5 game, and won both games. The Hawkeyes were a young team in 2021, but they are likely going to lose their top players, who were all juniors.

Iowa finished 10-4. All four losses came against four opponents that all won 9 or more games. All four opponents were heavy on seniors in 2021.

Iowa had less than 10 seniors on scholarship, as I recall.

It was a fantastic season, when you look at Iowa making it to the next step. It was a disappointing season, since they didn't finish strong, with their fifth W to close out the five seasons, with Brian Ferentz as OC.

It was a season wanting more, with a team that most ask, how did they get to ten wins on the 2021 season?

Hat's off to Purdue, they beat Iowa for their two star players (who Iowa recruited) and clearly are the better team in 2021. They are losing multiple players who contributed to their 4th win over Iowa in five years.

Hat's off to Wisconsin, also the better team in 2021. However, early on in the season they had an identity issues on offense and they will have a new receiving room to rebuild, with Top TE & WRs departing.

Congratulations to Michigan, as the 2021 Big Ten champs, but Ohio State's Rose Bowl win and game in 2022 in Columbus will place the Buckeyes again at the head of the B1G table.

Iowa has plenty of challenges ahead in 2022. But, a roster that is trending upward, except for maybe certain key positions 🤔

Let's hope Iowa can press on and defend their B1G West title exceptionally well.

It is rare for teams to win back to back division titles in the West.

On Iowa, but beware of Iowa State, at Minnesota and Nebraska, all teams who last won against the Hawkeyes back in 2014, in those same locations.
