So, it seems like there's a rule-sanctioned process for fisticuffs in hockey:

(1) Throw down your gloves. Everybody else skates backwards.

(2) Fighting commences. Everybody stands by and watches.

(3) When the combatants finally fall down, only then are the officials allowed to skate in and break it up.

(4) All the fighters proceed to the box.

Is there any color I'm missing with this?

Yep. Pretty much it. Also, the sweaters have fight straps in them to prevent being pulled over heads etc.

I’m gonna invent skates that turn into Yak Traks with a push button so they can get more traction.

Oh, and teams have ‘enforcers’ whose sole job is to pretty much fight.
