Like if everything somehow went tremendously well, what’s the goal and how does it work?

Thanks in advance.

It amounts to a 20% sales tax that they have wanted to use to fund the government with but could never get the political will to actually pass a national sales tax. So they call it a tariff and say it's in defense of American jobs and then they can cut corporate taxes to basically zero and not immediately bankrupt the country.

It is blather, it is bullshit and will not happen, as will be the case for most of what he promised during the election run.

So, the main goal is to generate a lot of money for the government? These tariffs will raise the cost of these goods to Americans.

Obviously we will buy these goods more because they will cost more and generate money.

But if they are more expensive and people don’t buy them, they won’t generate any money.

So, again what is the goal and can a Republican please explain this to me.
