Cancer funding is frozen, but Musk just got $38 million today

The reality is manned spaceflight is a dick measuring contest right now and nothing more. The moon missions, Mars.. all dick measuring. We are decades from making any profitable venture from it. So if we need to slash the budget, manned space exploration is it. But no doubt king Elon won't touch that funding.

Apparently Trump has face cancer. WTF?

I wonder why this one is ok and other spending is not?

Is there a link to Cancer Research funding being cut? Or did you just quote Omar in the title? Thanks!

'So let me get this straight, he wants contracts for cancer research cancelled but says let keep contracts for his company Spacex to do research,' Rep. Ilhan Omar posted.

Unfortunately, there are geo-political (astro-political?) considerations to just ceding the Moon and beyond to China, because they're going, whether we do or not.

With respect to profitable part, COVID threw a wrench in the start of this project, but it appears to still be on:

the Sacramento start-up Orbital Assembly Corporation (AOC) has announced plans to open a space hotel by 2027. As the first of its kind, Voyager Station is slated to be a luxury resort designed to accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members, complete with a restaurant, a bar, a concert hall, a gym and even a cinema.

If this sounds preposterous, Tim Alatorre, OAC’s vice president and architect behind the hotel, understands the skepticism. But it won’t be long, he insists, before such talk is commonplace. “I think it’s going to be a normal thing, where your mom went to space, your dad went to space,” he says. “Being an astronaut is not going to be a novel thing anymore, because everyone has done it.”

Venture capital is already funding efforts to mine the asteroid belt.

The old environmentalist saw about how the planet doesn't have the resources to support an American consumption rate for everyone is going to be moot, because everyone wants to consume like an American, so it will be profitable.

It’s hilarious that Elon’s response was that his contract was a good contract.

Also, he didn’t propose the contract. His employees did.

Shit, they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. It’s like they are giving us all a big FU.
Again, the time is over for saying "it's like they . . ." or "it's as if he . . ."

There is no "like" or "as if" they are saying FU to all Americans who aren't part of their grift. Loud and clear.

Space X was given almost a billion by Biden without a peep from anyone. But 5% of that given to him by Trump gets you all in a tizzy. Yeah. Hot take indeed.
Are you really too dense to understand it's not the grant funding people object to but rather the blatant hypocrisy?

That's pretty dumb even by your admittedly low standard.

Yeah. Pretty shitty. I see it.

What’s your opinion on Biden saying he’s not going to pay for student debt ever. Then making a complete 180 and spending $5 billion on it for the sole purpose of winning an election when you realize you’re numbers are down? Since you seem to be so against that type of thing now, and all. I’m sure we find post after post of you and Belem being outraged by that.

One is garden variety bullshit politics.

The other is upending checks and balances and embracing authoritarianism.

It’s like saying “oh sure, you are reallly complaining about that metastatic lung cancer, but I didn’t hear you bitching about that mildly sprained ankle.”
