Cancer in Iowa: What role does agriculture play in Iowa’s high cancer rates?

The role is major. My Gpa worked 40 years at a Fertilizer plant in the mix room. He retired and 2.5 years later was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and ultimately passed. Never smoked either. Grandmother has heard thru the grapevine multiple coworkers of his developing lung and throat cancers since he passed.

Hey guys, a couple of these posts don't really mesh with the "America Needs Farmers" type of marketing that is preferred around here

Farmers are fine. There aren’t that many of them left, however. You need hundreds of acres to make a go of it, and large operations will scoop up rentals and maximize each season over the overall health of the land. Lots of absentee landowners and aging owners fuel this. We see it with our land in Indiana. We could easily rent for more to a consortium that runs 10,000+ acres, but they don’t care about the land. If it goes sour due to poor practices they’ll move on. We rent to a 6th cousin for less money, it he’s invested in it long term and we manage the health of the land together.

In before Doobi or Northern chastise the OP for hating Iowa and announce that elevated cancer risks are worth it to own the Libs.
Derp on including me in this. I've never said any such thing.

I bet you love your steak, pork chops, and corn.
Sure, but that doesn’t mean so much pig s*** and chemicals have to be tolerated. People in other countries have beef and pork without our level of pollution.

I mean, I guess. What am I going to do?
1). Eat less meat
2). Write your rep
3). Don’t smoke
4). Exercise
5). Eat fruits and vegatables
6). Report pollution and run off you see

That list after 30 seconds thought.
