are my suspicions correct that those two stretch play calls were made to pick on the fact their starting safety was no longer in the game? Ejected for the targeting, of course. I definitely think we decided to test the pursuit angle and general execution of his backup.

I really think the stretch plays were called as the edge was where our opportunity was in the running game. We were having a hard time between the tackles and KF said they discussed it at half.

BTN announcer (Dinardo) seems to think that the stretch runs had more to do with getting out numbered in the box. Our WRs block so well down field that we would have found their safety.

Did they not have a backup come in to play strong safety? :) then they had a chance to stop it. We had to replace one of our starting LBs, plus our star CB for a quarter

Of course they had 11 men on the field for the play. I wasn't implying my OP as an excuse for UNL. Simply suggesting it may have been part of a brilliant adjustment - taking advantage of a less experienced player, like going after a backup CB

I've seen their starting safety (who's a punk), take bad angles before...end result would have been the same...in fact, I was almost sad to see him leave the game cause he's not all that.

I would say it was more an adjustment we made at halftime.

After we hit it twice, they adjusted.

To answer the op, No. It isn't like Iowa ran plays hat aren't a staple in the playbook. If by chance, they had list a star corner that we picked on all day, then yes, that would have been a conscious targeting of their missing a star player.

Hard to ever expect a run is going to develop to that level that you'd call them in order to take advantage of a backup safety. It's not like in the passing game where you know you are gonna throw it at him. If it was a weak lineman or backup lb would be more likely, but not a safety.

We ran up the middle a bunch in the first half, and their LB and safeties were focused on the middle. Hit the edge on a couple of well-blocked plays, and Canzeri was gone.

No, its the go to run play.
Nebraska was squeezing us in the middle, coaches called for the adjustment to get the fullback out front on the edge and it worked perfect.
Neb. then adjusted their pursuit but these 2 runs were the result of coaching adj. on the fly,
