Interesting story from the Washington Post, and an even more interesting reaction from Carly herself. "It's a media conspiracy", is the response coming from Carly and her surrogates. As if the media made up the facts, which Fiorina actually admits to be true. After her failed senate campaign Fiorina had debts. That is not surprising. A lot of campaigns do. What is odd is that she paid off a loan to herself first, and left many small vendors swinging until just before she announced her candidacy for President. Curious timing, and curious that she paid herself back first. Along with her giant severance package for getting fired these are the kinds of things that make voters look sideways at a candidate.
I posted a week or two ago that Fiorina had a nice bump in the polls, but, she as a rising candidate she would begin to receive scrutiny. As someone who defiantly said she'd give the leaders of Iran, and Vladmir Putin the back of her hand she had a lot of trouble explaining away her debt problem from her failed senate campaign, and she lost a public battle with the Post. She should have had a better answer, and that's a sign of a person unprepared. She had to know this was coming.

I'll bump this once. I find it odd the usual suspects haven't rushed out to support Fiorina, or agree that it is really a media conspiracy to knock down Fiorina.

This is good. It shows she'll take care of America before other countries.

This. Also, anyone remember Hillary's problems paying her people off?

I also see Rubio being attacked for missing so many votes while running for POTUS. Remember Obama missing all of those votes? More than Rubio at this point. Rubio isn't running for re-election in the Senate. Was Obama had he lost the bid for the WH?

I honestly don't know what is odd about paying yourself first. She's not a martyr is she?

You are right. It's not a media conspiracy as much as a gotcha question. It's really a non story. That's the point.

I don't know that I'd criticize a POTUS candidate from either side about the facts here. It appears that she had some debt and everyone got paid eventually. Feels like nothing to see here.

I don't like that they pay off their personal loans first, but I bet that is common practice. I remember a story about New Gingrich last time around leaving a bunch of vendors unpaid, but his campaign paid Newt something like $40,000 to purchase a mailing list from him. Now that is shady.

They mostly do carry debt. Hillary carried debt. The timing of paying off the debt is odd. Paying herself off before the little people goes to a narrative that helped beat Mitt Romney. It will be spun as her seeing herself as above the little people.

I get the narrative, I'm just not sure it would move my opinion on any candidate. If I'm pre-disposed to not like a candidate, then this becomes just one more thing maybe, but if I'm undecided, neutral or positive on a candidate, this isn't going to do much.

The timing isn't so much odd as it is obvious -- she wanted that gone before launching a national campaign. As for paying herself first, I have no idea if that's common or not. If it's even relatively common, then there's nothing to see here.

That's been the script. May as well play it till it stops working for you.
